Javier had awakened an hour after you had left the apartment, he stumbled around his small space with his half-drank glass of whiskey looking for you. His large hands held against the frame of his bedroom door. he rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand and looked around. the bed was empty and neatly pulled up. he walked inside the room and shuffled through his drawers, most of them had been emptied. he had called out your name, silence had only returned. he quickly walked out of his bedroom and to his kitchen, he set his glass down on the counter and did a thorough search of his small apartment. nothing. he rushed out his door and walked down the hallway to your door. He banged his fist against the door, no answer. he opened the door and rushed inside. nothing. he sped walked to your bedroom, the bed was neatly pulled up and shoes, clothes on the floor were gone. your drawers hung empty, the picture that he had brought you was sitting on your empty night stand. he picked it up and tucked it under his arm. he solemnly dragged himself back to his apartment and shut the door behind him. he sank down on the floor and sighed. the sound of crinkling broke the heavy silence. he looked down, his shoe was pushing up against a crumpled piece of paper. he looked at it for a moment and reached down to grab it. he unfolded it and read the neat handwriting that blanketed the yellow tinted paper.

"javier, I had taken your advice for once and packed up and left. by the time you'll get this I'm in the terminal about to board my plane for miami. I took the liberty of taking my things from your dresser and mine as well so you don't have to worry about my stuff taking up your space. I've already called movers and they're going to take my stuff to a donation station. I've paid my last rent check, everything is taken care of and will be gone by the end of this week. I know how bad you wanted me to say it, but you are right. this place isn't for me, it's cruel and dangerous. I have enough to get me by for the next few months. If there's something you can at least do for me it is safe."

you signed your name at the bottom. he rubbed his head with his hand, the other held onto the thin sheet of paper crumpling it even more than it was. he stood up and walked to his kitchen pacing back and forth. he was drunk and stumbled when he walked, for a moment he leaned against the kitchen counter and stared at the cup he had set down moments before. his gentle hands picked it up and admired the liquid, his gentleness turned to anger. he launched the glass across the room into the closest wall. his breathing was heavy and his vision blurred. He knew deep down it was the right thing to drive you out, but guilt is a big, mean bitch.

"come on sleepy head, we're going shopping today." you rolled over on your side to see macy standing above you shaking you slightly. "mace, it's too early." you groaned, she sat down in your bed. "It's 2:15. you've had plenty of time to sleep." you were still exhausted from the day before, although columbia was only an hour ahead of Florida, The flight had knocked you out. "come on, get up." she dragged you out of your bed, although it missed something. you sat up and rubbed your face. your hair was a mess and your face still had on old makeup from the day before. she left you once you were on your feet, it was late spring and the weather was cool in the morning. you had taken a shower to get the airport smell of your body and out of your hair. you changed into a pair of fairly baggy jeans, a white tank top and white sneakers. you had braided your hair but something about it never felt right. the way you did it was too tight and the hair would get stuck in between your hands and you would sometimes pull some hair out. But it managed. you put on some makeup to make you look a little less exhausted. when you finished, macy dragged you down the stairs and into the garage. you had to run back in to grab your purse, then got in her car. she drove fast, but she was at least safe about it. the tall palm trees lined most of the streets. you were able to see the sky and the greenery. columbia was a very beautiful country. but what was going on with escobar and cali it took away from its natural beauty. she had pulled into the large parking lot filled with tons of cars. It had been a long time since you saw a building complex this wide. you got out of the car and she pulled you out of the parking lot and into the mall. when you first got inside you were greeted with an indoor fountain, escalators ran along the walls and stores were tucked away in every crevice. "wow, it's been a while since I've been to one of these." you took in everything you were seeing. "amazing isn't it? come on, let's go walk around." you and macy walked through pretty much every store, and she bought something from almost every store. You had bought a few new bikinis, a new pair of shoes for work, a few cute shirts and a new skimpy dress for the club. If macy wasn't at the mall or the beach,, she was most likely at the club grinding against pretty cuban boys. "when are you going to let go of him? you weren't even dating him." you sighed and took a sip from your smoothie. " I just can't, he really cared about me. I miss him a lot but I know being here is for the better." she rolled her eyes "you can find a cute boy here, there's plenty of them. all of them have that surfer boy look. wavy hair, bright eyes, tanned skin." she nudged you with her elbow, making you laugh. "I'm serious! there's a lot of cuties down here." she took a sip of her smoothie, "I'll think about it." you gave her a warm grin.
