"Do you think this is cute enough?" Macy poked her head into your bathroom. You wore a pair of jeans and a 'wood stock '68' shirt. "Looks fine to me, casual. I like it." You pulled your hair back and bent down to slip on your sneakers. "Are you ready to go macy?" you stepped out of the bathroom after finishing putting some blush on your face.  "uh huh, lemme get this shoe on." she pulled the strap from her heel over her ankle. "where are you going?" she looked up at you, "I'm going out with beach boy. were going clubbing." you brows furrowed, "I thought you were coming with me?" she shook her head, "our plans changed. if you need me just find a phone booth. they're everywhere down here." you sighed and walked down with her to her living room. she wanted to make sure you left safe. a knock from the door interrupted both yours and hers conversation. Macy walked to the door and she chatted with Bowie for a moment before calling you over. he wore jeans, a white tank top and a striped button down t-shirt over it with a few bracelets that accented his large forearms and a thin gold necklace. "ready to go?" you nodded and he walked you out the door. Macy slowly shut the door behind you. then moved to the large window to stick her head out. you shooed her off and looked ahead of you to the car. An old, but reliable, dark brown truck. the top had a rack that held about two different surf boards. "here she is, ol' cupcake." one of your eyebrows raised. "cupcake?" you couldn't help but laugh a bit. you helped yourself into the passenger's seat, he opened the drivers side and got in to start the car. "that's what my sister calls it." you smiled, "oh you have a sister? how old?" his hand went to the back of your seat and he turned his body and guided the car out. "she's about six now."

The entire car ride you both had just talked about, he talked about his family and it was nice getting to know bowie more than you had before. He talked about his dad, his favorite cars, the few times he hit a, what he described it, 'a hella rad' wave this year. "when do you go back to california?" he shrugged, "no idea. I'm old enough to decide where to go. but wherever the wind takes me is cool." His laid back attitude was interesting, his desire to live life as simple as possible seemed like a dream. You had already assumed he didn't watch the news. but I mean who would? With everything happening in columbia it was enough for anyone to make someone feel sick to their stomach. "You know, a beach-like hut sounds like the way to go. just chilling all the time and the only worry you have is seeing what you're going to eat or missing a massive wave." before you could answer he pulled into a long drive way and the car came to a stop. the house in front of you was small, screen doors and a few windows lined the front,. Although, there were people in the front yard cooking something in a large wok. "josh is making carnitas, cmon lets go." he hurriedly got out of the car and trotted into the front yard and shook hands with the two men that stood around the wok. you unbuckled yourself and got out of the car, you walked behind to the truck bed and took out two of the six packs that bowie had brought. you tucked them both under your arms and followed the same path he took to the yard.  "I brought someone you should meet." you moved one of the cases to your hand while you kept the other case tucked under your arm. you used your free hand to shake hands with 'Josh'. Josh was tall, with thick curly black hair. he wore a pair of jeans, cowboy boots and a similar button down shirt to Bowie's. he had sharp features with thick eyebrows and a nice smile, his skin was tanned from the hot sun. "It's nice to meet you josh." he smiled at you, "It's nice to meet you too, preciosa." the pet name made your eyes widen for a moment. "where should I take these." your arm struggled to keep the two cases stable. "I've got it." josh took the two cases from your arm and set them down next to a cooler on the doorstep. "Bowie, you shouldn't make a lady carry heavy things." his hand went flying to the back of his neck. Bowie yelped and rubbed it with his neck. "Hey man,  I'm all for the 'independent woman' thing." you laughed a little. Josh turned to you, "I'm sorry about that." you smiled, "dont worry about it." he went back to stirring the wok full of the carnitas. Bowie walked you inside and to the back yard. A massive pot of boiling red water roared over the music. Bowie walked ahead of you and greeted most of the people in the backyard and introduced you to everyone. Eventually you both found your respective spots on some lawn chairs. Soon, josh had come in from a gate on the side with the massive wok full of the pulled pork and a good amount of a hot chillies based sauce that was poured over it. "looks good josh." Bowie spoke out, you started to get up but he stopped you. "I'll get you a plate, stay put." you lowered yourself back down into the white lawn chair while Bowie left to get you a plate. Josh had walked in front of you and sat down on the lawn. "you know there's a chair right next to you." he shrugged and took a bite from his plate. "yeah, I don't mind the grass." you gave him a smile and Bowie returned back with your plate. "don't eat too much, blue crab is gonna come out in a bit." you took a bite, the flavors of spicy and savory from the sauce danced around your mouth. reaching areas in your mouth that you didn't even have taste buds on them. It made you sink down into your seat. "this is really good. But it doesn't taste like the carnitas I'm used too." Josh set his fork down, "that's because it's not. its pernil. Similar to carnitas but it's primarily served with some kind of sauce. It's puerto rican." you raised an eyebrow and took another bite. "you're puerto rican?" he nodded his head, "I know the name 'josh' throws everyone off a tad, my actual name is Jose Vincent Nunez. Josh is just easier. I like my actual name. But I also like josh." You giggled at his response. "Well, I like the name josh too. And I like Jose." His face was a light shade of pink.
