We decided we would take his car back after Toni said I shouldn't drive in the stateI was in. He promised he would bring me back in the morning to get it and we thought the car would be in good hands at the university campus. In the car, it was a couple of minutes before I got some incoming text messages from James.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): arista bonita.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): perdón.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): i don't know what happened to me...
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): i knew you saw my text earlier, but you ignored me.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): instead you chose to go out with him.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): you continue to break my heart.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): you should have seen the way Toni was smiling and telling everyone he had a date.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): a date with my arista. it was annoying.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): he doesnt deserve you.
arista (+57 315-xxx-xxxx): and you do?
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): why does he get to be happy and i don't? i wanted another chance. maybe you like rejecting me...
arista (+57 315-xxx-xxxx): he doesn't make me feel like everything is my fault. you do that to me, james.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): when am i ever accusing you of things?
arista (+57 315-xxx-xxxx): we need to leave the past in the past if you want to be my friend.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): and we will. i just couldn't control myself when i found out the two of you were going out together. i'm sorry for everything.
james (+34 6xx-xxx-xxx): its time i understood we need to move on.
arista (+57 315-xxx-xxxx): please james. its for the best.

Several days passed and James kept his word. He was trying very hard to be my friend, and it was a strange relationship at first. Going back to friends was a bit difficult, because the two of us had been accustomed to being something more, at least when we were younger. But we had been friends long before that and once that awkward barrier in which we could not compliment each other without thinking of fond memories was lifted, James proved to be a great friend.
Giselle had called the news building after almost two weeks. I had been surprised that she actually called. After she had found out James and I had been together, I assumed she wanted nothing to do with me.
But she finally called, announcing she was ready to finish her interview.
I had to go to her apartment on my own, he no longer went to the news building to pick me up. When I told James I would be going, he asked me to pretend we hadn't seen each other or talked to each other in a while. He said he didn't want any trouble with Giselle and he didn't any trouble for me either.
When I arrived at her apartment, he came to the door and a boyish smile lit up his face. "Hola Arista." He whispered and pulled me in for a tight hug.
"Hola Jamesito." I whispered back, and added more loudly and with less familiarity, "Is Miss Vilanova here?"
He nodded. "She's in the bedroom getting ready for her big interview."
"James, mi amor," Giselle called from the hallway that led to the bedroom. "Tell the interviewer she can put her things down wherever she likes and she can get started interviewing you."
