[ twenty nine ]
When I finished my soup, it was nine in the morning and I was feeling with newfound energy. We had the entire day to ourselves and made it our mission to visit all the places we loved when we were children. I left his house right after I finished eating, with many protests from him, and returned to my house to change into something nice. I couldn't go out in James' old training gear.
My mom asked me how I was feeling and I let her know James and I were technically back together, but wouldn't have anything official until we could talk to Toni and Giselle. My mother was thrilled at the news.
Toni would be arriving in the evening, and that left me with enough time to emotionally prepare myself for what was going to come.
We went for a walk in the park first, under the shade of the trees. It was the same park he used to run off to during school hours to play football. Simon Bolivar Park was the name and once there, we stopped at one of the little shops for a snack. I grabbed some cotton candy and he grabbed a slice of chocolate cake.
As we walked side by side, a pinched a bit off the cotton candy with my index finger and thumb, and held it to his lips. "Prueba, Jamesito." Try it, Jamesito, I offered with a smile.
He obediently opened his mouth and I fed it to him.
James stopped directly in front of me and grabbed a spoonful of chocolate cake. Holding it to my lips, I opened my mouth, but he moved it out of the way on purpose and ate it. A chuckle escaped his lips as he left me with my mouth wide open in surprise. "James!" I laughed along with him. My finger swiped a bit of the frosting on the cake and smeared it across his nose.
In the next second, there was a mischievous flash in his eyes and his hand, the one holding the plate with chocolate cake, twitched.
"Don't even think about it, James David." I backed away slowly, my arms up, ready to push him away.
But I knew that if he wanted to, he would win. He was stronger than I was.
"Ven acá, bonita." He grinned at me. Come here, beautiful.
"No." I shook my head.
Without further warning for him, I turned and took a run for it, following the small path that led further into the park. Screams and laughs escaped my lips as I ran away from James. He followed after me of course, and was able to catch up easily, even though I tried to use trees as hiding places.
From behind me, one of his arms snaked around my waist, and the other brought the plate of cake to my face, smearing it all over. The paper plate fell to the floor, and I could feel the frosting all over my face and collarbone. His other, now free, arm wrapped around my waist as well and he placed a quick kiss on my neck. "I win, mi amor." He said with amusement.
But I scraped a chunk of cake off my own face and reached back blindly, smearing some on him. The two of us were laughing all the while. His grip on me loosened enough to allow me to turn to face him. I got on my tiptoes and pressed my lips to his.
When we pulled away, he licked his lips and said, "Now you taste like chocolate."
"I need to go wash up." I told him, looking down at my hands covered with chocolate frosting, part of my blouse was stained too, and I knew my face was probably the most affected. With a smile, I gave him a warning, "I'm going to get you when you least expect it, amor."
He needed to wash up as well. Though I hadn't gotten him enough, part of his face had chocolate frosting finger marks on it. And we walked to the rest rooms together, people stared at us all the while. But we didn't care because we were together, and happy, and there was nothing that could ruin this happiness.

We stayed at the park for another two hours, just walking around and talking. And then we played a bit of football. James was better than me at it, but he let me win. I didn't see the rest of my cotton candy after that, I must have dropped it while I was running away from James, and he bought me a new one which we ate together.
At lunch time we returned home to eat with our families and then we went to the largest mall in Colombia. It was called Centro Mayor.
James had been away from home for over two years and I showed him around. We didn't go everywhere because the mall was so big, but our final stop was an icecream parlour. The sun was already going down and I wanted to be there when Toni arrived at my house later. The whole time after we got icecream, James was on edge, thinking I was going to smear it on him. And that was exactly my plan, but I needed for him to get his guard down.
I ate my icecream cone slowly on the way back home, just to make him think I had no intention of smearing it on him.
He parked his car right in front of my house and walked me to the front door. "Let me know how everything went with Toni. Te amo, bonita. I'll see you tomorrow and we can go to the plaza to see the christmas decorations." He said, pulling me into his arms for a warm hug.
"I love you too." I hugged him back, and waited for my chance.
When he pulled back away from me, there was a smirk on my face and in an instant he knew what was coming. My hand holding the icecream cone moved towards his face with record speed, smearing the dairy treat all over his handsome face. His hand grabbed my wrist immediately, pushing it back to stop me. But his face was already covered in icecream.
"You deserved that." I laughed, delighted.
A few feet from us, I heard someone clear their throat to get our attention and I froze in place. My head slowly turned in their direction to see Toni standing there.
He was accompanied by a man and a woman that looked to be in their late forties or early fifties, who I assumed were his parents.
I wondered how long he had been watching us. Not very long, I hoped.
But I knew breaking up with him had just turned difficult.
