Whenever Winter thought of his sister, he'd normally think of a dragon better than him in virtually every regard. More skilled, sharper claws and fangs, colder frostbreath, prettier scales, everything. She was more motivated and intelligent than he could ever be.

Just before him was an IceWing that he could never even dream of being the same as this perfect dragon.

Icicle stared at him, her eyes bloodshot. Deep blue veins were visible, cracked against her black eyes like broken glass. Her white scales were stained with not only ash and dirt but blood-blue blood. On her talons and wings, this rich blood was etched into her, tainting her body. Her stance was aggressive and agitated, but not in a traditional IceWing sense. Gone was the regal and noble stance he knew her for. Her claws dug into the ground, her tail swishing around erratically. She was animalistic and feral.

She let out a small breath. "H-how did you find me?" Her voice was dry and hoarse, the words stumbling out of her mouth with no sense of formality.

"We traced you all the way back to here," Qibli answered. "It was fairly simple, actually-"

"Shut your trap up, sand snorter." She lashed out at him. Her attention turned back to Winter. "Why did you- why are you here? Do you want to come back and gloat about how much better you are than me? You want to show off your stupid friends and how good your life is?" She let out a small, strained laugh. "You don't care about him. You don't care about anybody! You just...don't care..." She faltered, letting her wings relax a bit.

Winter stepped back, unsettled by his sister's behaviour. "What are you saying?"

"I'm saying Hailstorm's DEAD for moon's sake!" She snapped, instantly switching on a fly. "You- I- no, no, no, no, no... She killed him and she's... She wants me to know it. I know it. Any time I get close to falling asleep, she's there. She's like an animal. She's sitting there, waiting for me to-"

"Moons above..." Winter whispered.

"What? What is there something wrong with me, Winter?" Icicle forced a smile, walking towards him. "I can't see why you would be afraid of me. I can't see why you'd be-what's the word again-disturbed by me being...like this!" She gestured to her entire body, opening up her wings. There were blisters and scars all along the sides of her body. Burn marks and boils warped her pure white scales.

"Goodness gracious," Kinkajou exclaimed. "What's...wrong with you? What happened to you?"

"Scarlet happened to me, that's what!" Her breathing was heavy, yet choppy. "She ruined me, you know that? She ruined everything! She's always there with that little...thing of hers. She knows where I am." She nervously scratched at her face.

Winter blinked. He couldn't help but feel sorry for her. Even if she was rude and clearly hated him, she was his sister. He flexed his claws anxiously. "I'm sorry, Icicle," he mustered out, not knowing what else to say.

She chuckled, humoured by his response. "Sorry? You're sorry?! After all you've done? It's your fault that Hailstorm is captured by her. It's your fault this is happening to us. If you weren't a coward and just-"

"Hey, you're in no place to talk about him like that," Qibli spoke up. "He was two years old. What could he have done?"

"Anything! He could've not just run away and let the most prized IceWing-our brother get captured! You don't know what it's like. You SandWings aren't like that. None of you know what it's like. Not even you, apparently." She pointed at Winter.

"She's a complete wreck," Moon said, terror laced in her words. "I haven't seen a mind so...jumbled like hers."

Icicle slowly turned towards Moon. "No, no, no... Don't tell me you're one of those mind readers, aren't you?" she whimpered. "No, no, NO! Get out! Get out of my head, please, please, please!" Her voice cracked. "I don't want anybody else in there, please... It's so loud and Scarlet won't leave me alone. Please, just get out..." She cradled her head, shaking it. Her sobs cut into Winter like daggers. Hearing her show any sort of emotion, any sort of vulnerability like this, it was distressing.

"I'm...sorry I can't help it." Moon apologized. "I really am."

"Make her go away..." she whispered. "I don't want anybody else in my mind..."

"She's delirious. She apparently hasn't slept in days. It's...oh my moons." Moonwatcher held her head. "It hurts to just even be near her," she winced.

"Days?" Kinkajou echoed. "How could she not sleep for days? Don't you need that to-I don't know-live?"

"Any time she tries to catch me, I have to sit by the lava until I don't feel tired anymore." Icicle tapped on her wings, the scars still visible. "I can't let her get me. She'll tell me that I've failed and that...he's going to die. He's going to die and it's all my fault for not listening to her."

"Do you even know where he is?"

"If I knew that, I would've gone there and got him out myself. Why do you think I'm hiding here? For fun?" She snapped, but still remained huddled within her wings. "There's no way to fix it. Not unless I do something she really wants."

Winter's ears perked up. "Like what?"

"Kill the RainWing queen," she said. "She hates her. She ruined her life. If I just...kill her, then she'll release Hailstorm. Everything will be okay."

Before Winter could object, Kinkajou started talking. "What?! No! You can't kill Queen Glory!"

"And what are you going to do about it?! You don't understand what it's been like. I have to kill her to make everything okay again."

Winter watched as Kinkajou's scales shifted from white and green to black with streaks of red. Her frill puffed up as she let out a hiss. "You can't kill her!"

"Kinkajou, wait-" Moon began, but Kinkajou was already through with her choice. She lunged at Icicle, fangs outstretched and aiming for the neck. In an instant however, Icicle battered her away with her wings.

"You can't stop me!" she yelled. "I don't care what you think! I don't care what happens!" She pounced onto the tiny RainWing, claws up and ready to swipe at her throat. It would be a blow that would certainly kill her.

Time seemed to stop as Winter couldn't move. Every muscle in his body screamed at him to move, to yell, to try and do anything to stop her. Yet, he was frozen. He could only watch in horror, waiting for the gore and bloodshed to follow.

At least, until a fast-moving object flew right in front of him. It hit Icicle square on the neck, penetrating her scales. She recoiled in shock, and tore it out, looking at it.

In her talons was a blow dart.

"Wh-what is this?" she stammered. "What is-why is there-"

Like magic, Glory and nine other RainWings appeared, their scales shifting to reveal themselves. They were hiding right beside them this whole time.

"Icicle of the IceWings," the RainWing queen announced. "You are under arrest. You've murdered, attempted to murder, and have just assaulted one of my own RainWings."

"NO!" she screeched. She clawed at her neck, falling to the ground. She rolled in pain. "What have you done to me?! You-everything is getting dark-no!"

"That was a tranquillizer dart," Glory explained. "Seeing how you are behaving, I'm certain you need it. You will wake up once more in a couple hours."

Icicle's eyes welled up. "You can't do this to me! I need to stay awake! I can't sleep! She'll find me and- I CAN'T!" she shrieked. She flailed around wildly before her eyes landed back on Winter. "Please, Winter, tell them to stop! Make them!" She dragged herself towards him.

Winter flinched away. "I can't-"

"Tell them that I need to stay awake PLEASE!" She grabbed onto his front left arm, holding onto it for dear life. "I don't want to go to sleep. She'll tell me that I've failed and kill him. He's going to die..."

Soon enough, her grip loosened on him. "Please, Winter. I don't want Hailstorm to die..." she muttered. Finally, she stopped speaking, her body going limp. The tears on her face dripped onto the ground.

Winter stood there in silence, terrified. He shook her off and stepped away from her body. His chest heaved as he stared at her. The only thing he could think of at that moment was how he was the blame for this. He did this. He was the one who killed Hailstorm. He was the one who forced Icicle to kill and eventually get arrested. He's to blame for it all.

Just like every other time, he's the useless one who only seems to make things worse.
