Legolas' P.O.V.

The unfortunate part of being royalty is that even when you are

having a tough time at home, the kingdom keeps on going and there are always

jobs that need to be done. And sometimes only a prince will do. So I have to

leave my family and go out for a few hours, trusting Nemir to look after them.

On my way home, I stop by the throne.

"Has there been no news of Ana?" I ask my father, stood at the

foot of his throne.

"Legolas, if there had been any word I would have had you

informed"

"How many scout parties do you have out?"

"Five of my best parties, and several of the average quality ones"

"Can't you send more? Is there no one else free to search?"

"Legolas, I am doing all I can but there are only so many people I

can dedicate to this task. She is only one person, and she is a capable warrior

and has much experience in the wild. I can't be seen to be going soft"

"Only one person? She is your daughter by law, the mother of your

grandchildren"

"If I may ask, Legolas, why are you not out looking for her? After

all, you have Nemir to look after the children, and she's basically family to

them"

"That's the real reason I came to see you" I say quietly. Father

looks at me with a raised eyebrow, silently questioning. "It's Estel, she's

ill"

Understanding dawns in his eyes, understanding mixed with

sympathy. "She will be alright, I am sure. Just as you were, just as I was when

I too fell victim to this at her age"

"But I can't leave her, you understand that do you not? I promised

Ana the children would always come before her"

"I do understand, and I know the awful pain of having to sit by

your child's bed when they are ill"

His voice has in it more than its usual haughty, superior tone. There

is compassion there, a deep understanding and emotion which only comes from a

person with experience. He softens a little, looking straight into my face and

saying quietly "I will send out another patrol. Go back to your daughter"

"Thank you"

I begin to walk away but he calls after me. "Legolas"

I turn.

"That girl, Nemir" he says "She's a good person, a strong and

honorable woman. Keep her close"

I can't help but wonder what he means by that, and at the same

time I know exactly what he means but I'm just not willing to acknowledge it.

What he means to say is 'Nemir is a good woman. Should anything have happened
