After dinner that night, Tara stayed after to help Fionnuala with the dishes.
"So does he know?" she asked her in a low voice.
"Know about what?" the young girl asked, placing another plate on the towel.
"About Derek, sweetie."
"He knows that Derek saved my life. Not that he's my boyfriend."
"When are you gonna tell him?"
"When the time is right, Tara. No sooner."
The deputy sighed as they finished up. "I hope you're planning on telling him soon."
"Dad still doesn't know what's going on in Beacon Hills. Nobody does. Everything that's happened these past few months. He doesn't need anything else to worry about right now."
"How are you feeling though?"
"Relieved to be back at school. I don't like the new principal very much though."
"New principal?"
"Yeah. He called me into the office to discuss why I wasn't at school last week." She shrugged. "I told him the truth. I was on bed rest because I had been seriously ill. I'm back at school now. That's all that matters."
Tara gave her a side hug. "You're a fighter, Fi."
"Of course. Always have been, always will be. I'll go down fighting. I'm a warrior."
"Alright, warrior princess. I'm gonna head out now. You get some rest."

The next day, when Derek picked Fionnuala up from school, she said, "I have a question."
"Yes?"
"What is going on today?"
"What do you mean?"
"Both Lydia and Stiles told me to have fun today before I left. At separate points too. What are they talking about?"
"You'll find out when we get to the loft. Speaking of which, I'm gonna request you close your eyes when we arrive so the surprise isn't spoiled."
"Alright." They arrived at the door and she closed her eyes.
"No peeking," he said.
"I'm not."
"Alright. I'm gonna direct you to the bathroom, okay?"
She nodded.
"Alright. Go in, close the door and open your eyes."
She obeyed and gasped when she saw what was in front of her.
