Chapter 7

They fell asleep and woke up like that: Fionnuala's head resting on Derek's chest and his arms wrapped securely around her. 

Fionnuala groaned when she heard her alarm going off.

"I don't want to go to school."

"Then don't. Stay with me. Let Stiles bring you your homework."

"I can't trust Stiles to be there all day. Not with what's been going on. I have to go."

"Ask Lydia."

"I'm not gonna do that, Derek. I have to go to school."

"But you just said you didn't want to."

"Not wanting to and having to are two completely different things. I also have to check your side before I leave." She began to stand up. "C'mon, hot stuff."

He sighed, sitting up. "I don't want you to go."

"I'll keep my werewolf hearing on and up. If there's anything serious, call me." She lightly pressed her hand on his side, hearing him suck in a sharp breath. "Still hurts?"

"Yeah," he said. "How, um, how hard were you pressing?"

"Not that hard."

Derek nodded. "I really regret not listening to you yesterday."

"Shows you just how stupid not listening to your girlfriend can be, huh?" She handed him a shirt and stood up, walking to the kitchen. "I'll be keeping an ear out for you all day, alright? I think I have a couple free periods today. I'll come and check on you during them. I know I have one after lunch. So expect me then."

"Expect you after lunch." He nodded,  pulling the shirt on before following her. "Do you know when your other free period is?"

"No, I don't. Why?"

"So I don't call you out of class."

"Derek, if you're in serious pain, don't hesitate. Please. I don't care if I'm in the middle of class."

"But I don't want you missing any more classes!"

"How many classes have I missed this semester?"

"Two weeks worth."

"I was sick, so I wasn't skipping. Besides, Stiles was bringing me the homework."

"I don't want you to have to go to summer school again."

"This is a big turnaround from this morning when we got up," Fionnuala stated, as she started breakfast. "You wanted me to stay home."

"Well, you were the one saying you didn't want to go to school this morning."

She smiled, looking over at him.  "Except I said I have to. I may not want to, but I have to. Whether you and I like it or not. Besides, I'll be by twice today to check on you and then coming here right after school. Also, aren't I meeting the rest of the pack today?"

"Oh, yeah. I forgot about that." Derek nodded as she set their breakfast down on the table.

"What are you gonna be doing today?" she asked.

"Relaxing. Trying to resist the urge to do anything that would make you remotely upset."

"Good." Fionnuala quickly ate and put her dishes in the sink. She grabbed her school bag and landed a quick kiss on his cheek. "Remember what I told you." Then she left, running out the door.
