Fionnuala walked to the laundry room where she kept the first aid supplies. They weren't taken out very much, considering Derek got himself into small scrapes that sustained little to no injuries.
"You're probably just overreacting," she told herself. "He's a werewolf. He heals. Not everything he does results in an injury that's worth freaking out over." She took a deep breath. "But on the other hand, he hates making a big deal out of his injuries. Even the serious ones." She closed her eyes. "Calm down, Fi. Trust your instincts. It's more than just a bruise."
Derek, who was now sitting on his bed in the pair of sweats Fi threw at him, overheard her talking to herself and bit his lip. His hand wandered to the bruise on his side. No, it wasn't the fall earlier when he was changing that caused it. He had discovered it last week, but he had no idea what made it or why he hadn't healed yet. He was just so confused as to why it hadn't healed yet.
"I'm a werewolf. I should've healed a long time ago," he muttered.
"Something else may be impeding the healing process," Fionnuala stated, re-entering the room with the first aid supplies and the dreaded hot packs.
He groaned. "No hot packs," he whined, crossing his arms and immediately wincing from the pain.
"That's for me to decide," she answered, putting everything down. "Let me see the injury."
He turned so she could have a clear visual of the bruise.
"Did you fight anyone today?"
"If you call fighting a string of fairy lights fighting someone, then yes."
She looked up at him, unimpressed.
"Did you not notice a very noticeable bare spot by one of the windows? There were no fairy lights there!"
"You didn't need to cover the entire loft in fairy lights, Derek. Just a few strings would've been fine. Is that what caused this? You fighting a string of fairy lights?"
He shrugged.
"Derek. I need you to be honest with me. How'd you get the bruise on your side?"
"I fell during the battle with the fairy lights."
"And?"
"I hurt myself?"
"That's obvious, dinglebat."
"Hey!"
"Don't 'Hey' me. I'm trying to help you here. This right here," she said, pointing at him, "isn't helping your case."
"What do you want me to say?"
"Be a little more specific about how you got your injury. Because," she added, pressing gently on his bruise, "this isn't just from today. There's no way you got a bruise this horrible today. You keep falling or something that is preventing you from healing."
Derek shrugged. "I don't know."
"So it just appeared out of nowhere one day."
"Yeah."
"You didn't think to tell me?"
"Well, you were still recovering and it wasn't really bothering me until this morning when I woke up."
"Hold on. This has been going on since last week?"
Derek hesitated, thinking about taking back his words, but then he saw the look on his girlfriend's face and made the better choice.
"Yes."
"Derek. I need to know these things."
He sighed. "Sorry, it's just-"
