When it comes to your favorite season, summer has always been on the bottom of your list. The hot and bone-dry climate served everyone a hassle. From the increased domain of mosquitos to stepping outside only to be drenched in sweat within seconds (and maybe catching a common summer cold), Yangdong might as well be a summer death hole.

The familiar cicada hum, the light strokes of the river, and the large sunflowers standing in the middle of the grassfield, flaunting itself against the heat of the burning star; the unnecessary familiarity made you dislike the village even more. What's worse is the neighbors; you see the same faces and hear the same gossip.

Unfortunately, every time you walk past them to your bus stop, they would immediately latch onto you. Whispers fill between them, but their eyes lingered on you longer than you would've liked. It wasn't like they were saying anything bad or nasty; however, you hated the attention of the village. You love being alone and isolated from them, yet there's no way around it considering you're the relative niece of the head physician, Lee Dohyun.

"Did you hear? She's Doctor Lee's niece. My, she certainly got her looks from her uncle."

"Do you know that she goes to the clinic every day after school just to help her uncle with patients?"

"It's true! Doctor Lee told me that she's treated wounded and ill patients before! What a gifted child she is!"

"Too bad she's antisocial."

A subtle frown lined your conscious lips, but you paid them no mind just as you've been doing for the past year and continued the way down to the bus stop. Don't these people know the definition of privacy? Especially watch out for their tongues? They're outside and sitting underneath the shade, but what they should be doing is touching grass. That'll do themselves a favor to actually live life and not gossip.

Luckily, the bus stop is a bit distant from the village folks; thus, you face the opposite direction and wait for what feels like a hot eternity. To ease the boredom of patiently waiting for the bus you plug in an airpod and start to play some music from your playlist. You let the other airpod rest in the white case and begin scrolling through your gallery of science notes. It's barely been a week since school started and you already have a biology test.

"[Y/N]nnie! Good morning!"

"What's up, [Y/N]! You're looking south again, huh? The direction of the city?"

What's even more annoying is that you have to ride the bus with two of the most popular girls at school, Jang Wonyoung and Ahn Yujin. So far, the damage hasn't been exactly heavy, but they wouldn't stop bothering you and stubbornly followed you around. Why is that? It's simply to get your phone number, but you knew these people all too well. It happened a lot when you were still living in Seoul; people would try to befriend you, but then actually take advantage of you for your kindness and then dump you off to the side after getting what they want from their friend.
