"Doctor Lee, please be honest with me. What's happening in this village?"

"Don't worry. I'll do everything that I can to protect her, I promise you."

"Believing in vampires or the Risen is childish to begin with, right?"

"It was the Risen."

"Why don't you bring your sisters to our home? I'm sure [Y/N] wouldn't mind the company."

Midnight has fallen by the time the head monk arrives at the clinic. As per the doctor's request, the man accompanies Dohyun at night to stand guard against any vampire who may come to attack the patient inside. It's a silly topic to think about, let alone take action against such a world of madness. Was this the right thing to do? Two grown men, sitting across from each other on the first floor, were hesitant to answer. Instead, they relax and enjoy a nightly brew temporarily. To be out here was better safe than sorry. At this point, anyone can die from a mere snooze. No one was safe around here anymore.

"Thanks for keeping me company, Soohyun."

Dohyun spoke after some time. The silence between them wasn't uncomfortable but awkward, rather. Villagers in town are made aware of the rivalry between the two historic families–the Lees and the Kims. Dohyun's family consisted of local doctors, surgeons, and all other medical professions, whereas the Kims had shrines and temples all over Yangdong and other nearby villages. However, more attention and respect go out to the Kims, considering they lived here far longer than his family has. Not that Dohyun cares, anyway. He wasn't fond of the Lee family name or their money.

"How's your work going? You're writing a novel, right?"

"Yes. It's titled Corpse Demon."

Soohyun, the head monk, takes a sip of his black brew, savoring its peculiar bitterness before explaining the contexts of his new book. It's about a man who wanders about the wilderness. On the hill, he lived as a heretic. When placed in his hands, nothing did what it should. He would spin the pulley of the well to draw some water, but, when he touched it, the water turned to dirt. Everyone feared him because he carried only misfortune and tragedy.

"Despite all of the darkness, there will always be light... Another man–his younger brother–was a kindhearted man. He was the polar opposite of his older brother. His presence and affection made everyone around him smile."
