Setting aside their focus on Carter Verone, someone in the department had received an anonymous tip that Brian O'Conner was spotted in Miami. Brian O'Conner was a former LAPD officer who had been on the run for eight months now. Specific details surrounding the circumstances were unclear, but rumor has it that he intentionally let a convicted felon escape under his watch. He was due to appear in court but vanished, fleeing California. Multiple agencies had tried to apprehend the man, but once he got behind the wheel of a car, their attempts were a waste. His driving skills were unmatched and he successfully evaded anyone that came after him. However, Miami PD had some tricks up their sleeve.
Currently, there were several officers (Jessica included) undercover at a street race. If O'Conner was in town, then he wouldn't be able to resist a race.
Jessica's eyes scanned through the crowd of people, hoping to spot the blonde man. They had been here for around a half-hour and still no sight of him. She hoped this wasn't a waste of time. At the roar of an engine, several people gathered around a silver 1999 Skyline as it pulled into view at the starting line. A smirk formed on Jessica's lips.
"He's here," Jessica said quietly. She and all the other officers were wearing ear pieces to be able to communicate discreetly.
The brunette woman made her way through the horde of people, stopping when she had reached the front. Her eyes were glued to the blonde man. He reached for his door to open it but stopped when he locked eyes with Jessica. Frozen for a moment, he was taken back by her beauty.
Jessica flashed him a sultry smile which only got his attention more. He smiled back at her before snapping back to reality, almost forgetting that he was going to race. Sending her a wink, Brian climbed into his car.
The other three drivers did the same, each of them preparing for take off. The crowd moved back, giving the cars enough space.
"He's about to race. We'll never catch him if he's behind the wheel. We move in after the race," Jessica spoke quietly. She had done a lot of research on the man, she knew what he was capable of. She didn't want to underestimate him. They were going to catch him tonight, she could feel it in her bones.
"Copy that," A fellow officer's voice came through her ear piece.
The race began. It wasn't long before Brian's silver Skyline came rushing into view, drifting past the starting line, signaling that he had won the race. Exiting the car with a smug smile, people surrounded him, cheering. Brian collected his hard earned money. His eyes searched the crowd in hopes of spotting the pretty brunette he had laid eyes on earlier - Jessica.
