Jessica felt a wave of irritation wash over her. She figured it was pretty obvious that she and Brian had slept together. Why would Monica kiss him? You're not together, you shouldn't be mad, Jessica thought. But why did it hurt so much? Jessica took a deep breath and did her best to push away any negative thoughts in her head."Am I interrupting something here?" Jessica asked, her voice laced with annoyance. She hadn't intended for it to come out as snarky as it did, but quite frankly, she didn't care. The two looked at Jessica. Jessica folded her arms across her chest. Monica noticed her change in demeanor and furrowed her brows. Oh. It took her a while, but Monica finally realized what was going on here. She hadn't put two and two together. With everything that Monica heard this morning, her mind was elsewhere.
"Oh shit. I'm sorry I didn't realize.." Monica trailed off. She felt terrible. "It was a heat of the moment type thing."
"The coast is clear, you should go while they're still distracted," Jessica replied dryly. She could hear Roman talking outside still. Monica shyly nodded then walked past her and entered the bathroom. Jessica avoided eye contact with Brian. She kept her eyes on the ground. Thankfully, she spotted her dress in the corner of the room. She walked over to retrieve it.
"Jess," Brian said, sighing. Jessica reached down and grabbed the dress.
"Hm?" Jessica asked without looking over at Brian. Brian walked towards her. He gently grabbed her arm, causing her to finally look at him. He knew she was upset.
"I didn't even have time to process what was happening, she was telling me not to make the run and then boom, she kissed me," Brian explained. Jessica looked down again.
"It's okay, you don't have to explain yourself. We're not together," Jessica said. She felt bummed out. Maybe he's had a thing for Monica all along.
"But I do," Brian paused. He put his hand under her chin, tilting her head up to face him. "I want you to know that I meant what I said earlier. I didn't want her to kiss me. I don't want her. I want you. I want to see where this goes. I don't want to screw this up." Jessica couldn't fight the smile playing at her lips. She heard someone yell something in Spanish from outside, distracting her. She had almost forgot about Roberto and Enrique being outside.
"We should probably get out there before Roman gets his ass kicked," Jessica said quietly. Brian chuckled then nodded in agreement. Jessica stood on her toes and planted a quick kiss on Brian's cheek before walking out to the boat deck.
"Donde esta?" Robert asked. Brian followed her outside. Jessica was thankful she paid attention to her Spanish course in college.
"Quien?" Jessica asked who they were referring to, folding her arms across her chest. She stood next to Roman whilst Brian stood behind her. Roberto narrowed his eyes at the girl, then muttered something to Enrique that Jessica couldn't translate. Enrique started to get on the boat, but Roman shoved him back.
"You ain't comin' on my boat!" Roman warned. Enrique shoved him back, then drew his gun, pointing it at Roman. Roman's face hardened then he took a few steps back, letting Enrique on the boat. Brian and Jessica moved out of the way. Roberto stepped onto the boat and he and Enrique began to search it. Jessica prayed that Monica got out in enough time. Brian kept the door open so he could see what they were doing. When the two men found nothing, they exited the boathouse. Right after Enrique took a step onto the ground, Roman opened his mouth.
"You better stay off my homeboy's boat," Roman said, following after Enrique. Jessica sighed. He always had to get the last word. Suddenly, Enrique stopped walking and elbowed Roman in the stomach. When he turned around, Roman threw a solid right hook to his face. Roberto quickly drew his gun and pointed it at Brian and Jessica. Jessica wished she had her gun. Roberto made the mistake of taking his eyes off of the two cops.
Quickly, Jessica quickly grabbed the barrel of the handgun then punched Roberto in the face. She snatched the gun from his hands and aimed it at him. Jessica kicked him in the leg, making him fall to his knees. He let out a pained yelp. Brian just watched in awe. While on his knees, Roberto looked up at Jessica, a scowl spread across his face. He lunged forward and tackled her, knocking her down to the ground, the gun falling from her hands and onto the deck of the boat. It made a loud thud. Brian felt rage fill his veins.
Brian reached down and pulled Roberto off of Jessica from the back of his shirt. He kicked him twice in the gut before grabbing the gun from the ground and aiming at Roberto's head. Enrique saw this and did the same to Roman. Jessica slowly started to stand up, feeling her body ache from the hard hit she had taken.
"Put the gun down! Put the gun down, now!" Brian shouted to Enrique. You could hear the panic in Brian's voice. He was concerned about his friends.
"You first, asshole," Enrique countered, staying still. He kept glancing between Brian and Roman.
"I swear to God, I will shoot the shit out of him. Put the gun down!" Brian yelled in a stern tone. Enrique yelled back at him in Spanish, telling Brian to put the gun down first. They kept bickering back and forth about who was going to be the first one to back down.
"Enough!" A voice yelled from out of nowhere. It was Verone. He stood there, just a few feet away from them. His hands were in his pocket and there was a disappointed look on his face. "Enough. Shut up. It's over, come on. It's over. Let's go," Verone warned. Enrique slowly lowered his gun. Brian followed in suit.
Before giving the gun back to Roberto, Brian pulled the slide back and emptied out all of the bullets, making each of them fall to the floor. He wanted to make sure they wouldn't try anything. Roberto and Enrique walked over to Verone, standing behind him. Brian looked at Jessica, his eyes wandering her body quickly to see if she had any visible injuries. She didn't. He and Jessica walked to Roman. Verone noticed how close Jessica was standing to Brian and the fact that she was wearing men's clothes. He smirked, putting the pieces together.
"I'm glad to see that everyone is getting along so well." Verone said, the smirk still on his face, "Because tomorrow Roberto and Enrique are going to be riding along with you. Just so we don't have any problems. Jessica, I'd like for you to join them as well. I'll see you guys in a little bit." He explained. Jessica nodded. Verone looked at the three of them briefly before walking away, Enrique and Roberto trailing behind him.
"What the hell was she doing in there, man?" Roman asked Brian angrily once Verone and his sped off. Brian and Jessica shared a look.
"We need to have a meeting with Markham."
