One Year

Bendry woke up in an unfamiliar
environment—well, no. At least from the villain's past regressions, there were at least ten thousand times he saw that plain ceiling above him painted with only white for the most of it. He was inside the academy's medical quarters. The place was pretty neat and clean. Nothing to see other than this soft white bed for his body comfortably resting and the woden desk on his left.

"Good morning."

Bendry turned to the right and saw a man sitting on a chair. Claymore, now on his normal form and not the nerd with a messy green hair, was staring at Bendry with his summer-green eyes reflected under the shade of the sunset. Behind the mage was a huge glass window exhibiting the large buildings of the academy outside hued with the colors of a setting sun.

Probably classes already ended. He only wasted the entire day lying on the bed and not even finishing the entire Battle Arts class wich normally use the whole morning period.

It is already late. Claymore is still here whom Bendry surmised that this mage waited for him to wake up.

Is this really how deep he defined our friendship? How unbelievably cute.

"Good morning too." The joker bastard raised up from lying and sat on the bed, answering the mage the same ironic words.

"What you did was intentional..." Immediately without reserve, the mage spoke to the one sitting on the bed without the one knowing what he meant. His statement is like a question. The mage's eyes deeply looked at him, filled with emotions hard to convey.

"You mean what?" Confused Bendry looked at him full of questioning.

"That thing you did to Vanessa. You purposely made her deeply shaken to—"

"Hold on! Stop! There were no bad intentions meant during that time!" Bendry suddenly got scared for a moment as he shook his head with hands waving alarmingly. Thinking Claymore might have another story-made reasons about him attacking or hurting the heroine is pretty scary right now.

"I did not have any thoughts of hurting Vanessa at that time! I just did that so that she would open her light magic. Distress is they key!" Claymore wanted to ask more but Bendry immediately switched to another topic to cover an unexplained possible questions. "Uh, where is she?" Bendry meant the heroine.

Frowning because he knew Bendry won't let him question, he just answered him, "After you blacked out, the classes still continued but Vanessa was brought to the head council to be investigated. With the help of the tower, they discovered that her light magic was unlocked because as a sign of her blue eyes. She was still staying in the dorms resting she was given more protection by the academy because of her magic."

That means this time, Claymore would be more protective of her like the other male leads after what happened.

"Tell me, Bendry." The mage leaned close to him with a serious expression. "You knew her light magic would open by experiencing a distress so you planned everything..."

"... " Bendry turned quiet. This topic gain...

Everything was just a coincidence — or probably not. Everything that happened was done according to the novel and he knew that there was a scene where the villain and the heroine was battling during the Battle Arts class. He knew what happened during that scene but he never thought it would occur the next day after returned to the academy.

In short, never followed the plot nor even had the intention of following the plot. So when the event came in, he just grabbed the opportunity of trying to win the battle and of course, as his role was supposed to be doing, he managed to cause the heroine reach her highest level of mental and emotional distress to unlock her light magic.
