Lucy's POV:

We all huddled under a desk, waiting for something to happen, someone to help us. After 30 minutes of sitting and huddling, no one came. "We have to get out of here, we have no idea what's happening, but whatever it is is bad, and we need to find a plan to survive," whispered Tom. "He's not wrong," replied Jace. Both could see the fear on my face. "If you want, you can hold onto my arm so I can protect you?" Tom was looking into my eyes when he said this. My heart jumped. "I- I- uh- yeah, sure! I- Id like- I wouldn't mind that" I replied. Why was I struggling to form a sentence? "It's decided then," said Jace. We all got out from under the desk and stood in front of the door. "Stay here, I'll be one moment," whispered Tom. He wandered off silently, entered the staff area of the classroom, rummaged around, and came back with a thin but strong-looking copper pipe. "They were redoing the pipework, so they had some spare pipes, thought they might come in handy," said Tom. We all stood at the door, me clamping Tom's left arm, he gripped the pipe in his right hand, and Jace stood next to us. I reached for the handle and turned.

I push the door, and it slowly creeks open, Tom peers his head around the door to look down the corridors. "All clear, but there's..." Whispered Tom with concern in his voice. "What is it?" Replied Jace. "What's wrong?" I reply, not handling the suspense. "There's blood up the walls and on the floor," Tom said slowly. "Ok, we need to be quick, we need to get out of the school as quickly as possible and get home to meet up with our families," whispered Tom. We slowly exited the classroom and slowly made our way down the corridor to our right. A slow but spine-chilling gurgling noise came from the end of the hallway. "What the fuck?" Whispered Jace. "Get behind me," Tom said slowly but strongly. I let go of his arms and me and Jace moved behind him. Tom gripped the pipe with both of his hands. A figure appeared from around the corner. A person? No, it couldn't be. Its skin was a greeny shade as it twitched too often for it to be a normal person. The figure turned to look at us. Blood dripped from its twitching jaw, its eyes were cloudy and it was hunched over as if it was about to pounce. "What the fuck is that thing?". Exclaimed Jace. The thing screamed and ran at Tom, me and Jace screamed but Tom didn't move. Tom braced himself, ready to fight. "If it kills me, run," said Tom. The creature lunged forwards at Tom. He swung the pipe and connected it with its head. The noise echoed around the corridors, the creature flung into a wall, slid down and crumpled to the floor. All twitching and movement in your creature stopped. A pool of blood began to form around its head. I stand there, staring at Tom with fear and awe in my eyes, "Did- is he- it- is it dead?", he stares coldly in front before looking at me with a soft gaze. "I'd say so". A moment passes of us just looking before Jace coughs. "well, uhm, let us move before it does, yeah?". No response. Jace nudges us. "Move your asses, lovebirds, stop staring and let us run before we die yeah?". We snap back into reality, our faces mildly flushed, and we all walk down the corridor, looking at all the dead bodies and blood sprawled everywhere, tears form slightly, looking at all our friends who aren't with us anymore, knowing that if there was one, there will be more and they're next.

I let out a whimper and Tom switches the pole to his other hand, wrapping his free arm around me, whispering sweet nothings to me to ensure I don't burst into tears and attract more. We reach the door leading us to the nearest exit. Locked. "Stand back" Tom speaks, Jace mocks him quietly beside me which makes me giggle slightly. I sense Tom smile slightly at me laughing, my stomach goes in knots. He breathes in and exhales as he smashes the glass. Tom goes through, ready to attack the unknown, I follow suit while grabbing his blazer. Jace stays behind us, he picked up some school scissors when he could for extra protection. A familiar noise, and not to our surprise, another zombie. I try to alert them but Tom's one step ahead, he charges at the zombie and hits it in the knee, letting it stumble as he hits it on the head, blood spitting out. We follow him, out of the school and so far, we are okay, just shaken, Then it hits me. It's now us. Us against the world. We leave the school grounds, we notice an instant change in aura. Zombies are dead, and the smell of rotting corpses makes me and Jay hurl and laugh at each other. Tom stays serious, analysing the world around us. "Let's move while it's day, they can't handle it." we nod in reply and follow him. I now realise, my life is in their hands, as I can't fight for shit and I didn't bring a weapon with me like they did. My life is now in their hands.
