Lucy's POV:
It's already turning night. Great, first night with zombies! Oh, such fun. We're getting hungry, and we have no shelter. It's a great start. We've been walking for hours, and that's great, and all until I remember, I haven't got my anaemia medication on me, so that wasn't a smart move on my behalf. "We need shelter, food, and water," Jace said between breaths. He was also getting a little exhausted himself. "We could crash at Lucy's place?" Tom says, and I stare blankly at him. "For all we know, my mom could be a zombie. We shouldn't stay near houses." he nodded in reply before asking, "Do you care for your parents?" and the question seems almost surreal as I'd never been asked that before. I just shake my head. "Nah, they never cared for me. Why should I care for them?". He stared for a hard minute, with a look that could only be described as a mild disappointment, but we quickly made our way to a temporary shelter, at least until the morning.
We soon reached a small area in the forest and set camp there before choosing night shifts. It was mostly bickering between Tom and Jace, who took the first watch, but I soon volunteered as that way I get it out of the way, and I can sleep for longer. The first night, I'm on watch, I'll be honest, it was scary. I sat there between Jace and Tom, Jace's scissors to the right and Tom's pole on my left, in case I need them. Problem. I can't see, so I am entirely relying on gut instinct and my hearing. I hear it. That fucking spine-chilling groan of the zombies. I panic, I can't fight, I can even barely move, my mind spinning. I nudge Tom first, each time harder than the last. That fucker sleeps like a rock. I hear it coming closer, branches snapping beneath its weight. I turn to Jace, praying he won't hit me as he gets mildly cranky when woken up. One tap, two taps. I feel him smack me off, but immediately shoot up at the moaning of the zombies. He grabbed his scissors and stood up, I grabbed Tom's blood-covered pole and mildly threw up at the feel. The zombies came in, but I heard more. Some were behind us. Jace has already run off, kicking zombies in the head and stabbing them while making sarcastic remarks as I swung the pole blindly. I feel something grab me and I scream, next thing I notice is Jace has now thrown me to the floor and stabbed the zombie in an uppercut. "Don't fucking touch my mother, bitch." he spoke in a stern voice that sent chills down my spine. He cleans the scissors off via his blazer and just smiled at me "We don't like messes, do we, mama?"
Jace was next to keep watch, and by the time I woke up his blazer was covered in blood. Then it was Tom's turn, he watched until the dawn. I sleep lightly so I did feel the occasional hug from Jace, I was all he had left of the family. I was his mother figure after all, and ever since we made that joke, I vowed to never leave his side. This man's my life and I love him until the end of the world, though I can't say that now.. so I love him until the end of time. My beautiful boy. Soon morning came, and I woke up with Tom's blazer over me, I could tell it was his, his scents weaker than Jay's, but I love the smell of it. I look at him, "Where's Tom?" Jace snickers "At the lake, washing off blood". Soon enough, me and Jace follow where he was and he was there, half-dressed, just washing the blood off his body. Me and Jace laugh at him and we realise it'll be smart to do the same. We were all in barely anything, I and Jace were talking about how pretty the other is then jumped in. We washed off the blood the soon started chucking water at Tom, which soon escalated into a water fight of red-dyed water and laughing. I will never forget the way me and Tom mostly aimed for each other, and then again I and Jay were teaming up against him. We stayed for about 30 minutes then got out, helping to dry the other off and getting dressed again. "We need to find more survivors" Tom stated as he struggled to tie my hair up as I button my shirt. "Smart move for once, bitch boy" Jace mumbles and I laugh. We all laugh together and then agree to find something to eat and find survivors.
