Owen took the wolf to one of the many rooms at the pack hospital once they returned to pack lands. They were a huge colony of wolves, one of the biggest in the world, so they had a small hospital with two stories on their lands to avoid any human doctor incidents. They also gave medical attention to any of the paranormal people who stumbled through their doors, but it was mostly wolves and other shifters.
All of the nurses had been wary of his sheer size, which kept any other patients or visitors from going anywhere near him. But he simply dropped his blanket onto the floor and laid down, much calmer than he had been before.
Of course, as soon as a nurse tried to touch him he bared his teeth and growled so loudly everyone in the room stopped moving. The nurse, one of the smaller wolves in the pack, cleared her throat nervously and backed up.
"Maybe we should get everyone out of here." Owen glanced around the room, which was crowded with curious eyes and ears. "I don't think having an audience is the best idea."
Amy, one of the head nurses, shooed everyone from the room and shut the door. "I apologize. They see one strange person and suddenly lose all manners."
She turned and looked at the wolf. "Where did you find this beastie?"
"In the warehouse out by the highway. He was locked up in a cell with a muzzle and chains in his wrists."
"He's a werewolf, then?"
Owen nodded. "He was human when he got there. Shifted as soon as he could, practically. I was the only one he let touch him."
"This is the wolf you found in the woods the first time, yes?"
He nodded again. "I think he remembered me."
"Well, at least he seems to be fully developed. Who knows what they were doing to him there." She pulled a pair of gloves from her pocket and put them on. "I'll need to draw some blood and check his vitals. Will you stay in here? You seem to keep him calm."
Owen carefully sat beside the wolf as Amy opened the cabinet by the door and pulled out some supplies for the blood draw. "She's going to have to touch you. She won't hurt you."
If he understood, he didn't let on. He just watched Amy as she knelt in front of him with a metal tray of equipment. "Do we know his name?"
Owen shook his head. "There was nothing on him, or anyone, in the warehouse."
She frowned and slowly reached forward. The wolf's ears pinned back and he growled slightly, but she simply looked at the tag on his collar. "Kai. Is that your name?"
The wolf huffed in response. "Must be."
Amy held up a small disposable razor. "Okay, Kai. I'm going to shave a little bit of you arm. Don't move or it may cut you."
Kai stayed perfectly still as Amy shaved a bit of his arm and wiped it down with an alcohol swab. He was fine until she put her fingers over the shaved spot to find a vein.
He whined and shifted his arm away. Owen reached out to pat his head without thinking, but it seemed to keep him calm as Amy continued her blood draw. She explained everything as she went, and soon she was wrapping a cotton square onto his arm with white bandages. "All done, big guy. Let's listen to your heart, now."
Amy took her stethoscope and pressed it gently onto him. "Good, strong."
Owen kept gently petting Kai as she looked in his ears, though he wasn't very happy about it. It almost seemed like he was in pain. Finally she said, "Okay, open wide for me. Let's take a look at those teeth."
