The next morning, Owen was in the kitchen making breakfast when he heard soft footsteps coming from the room. He looked up in time to see Kai nose the bedroom door open and pad out, stretching his long canine body as he walked into the living room.
Owen figured he'd want to spend some time in his wolf form, since he'd been doing a lot of talking the night before and it seemed to tire him. He didn't mind as long as he didn't chew on anything.
Kai sat at the end of the kitchen island and rested his head on the counter, eyes blinking slowly as he woke up little by little. Owen chuckled and patted the top of his head as he walked by to grab a pan he'd set out only a few minutes before. "Good morning, Kai."
Kai made a soft sound that sounded almost like a bark and closed his eyes as he rested his head on the counter. Owen smiled and shook his head. Not a morning person, then.
Owen poured the mix of eggs and seasonings into the pan and turned the burner on. In a few minutes he had enough scrambled eggs to feed both him and Kai.
He scooped himself a smaller portion, since he usually wasn't very hungry in the morning, and gave Kai a few scoops to start with. He was sure such a large person would eat a lot, but he didn't know if Kai was used to eating so much at once.
When he set the plate in front of Kai, his nose twitched as he sniffed the air. Once he realized it was food, his eyes open and he look curiously at the plate.
Owen sat on one of the barstools with his own plate and a fork. "I hope you like eggs. I don't have many breakfast foods."
Kai sniffed the plate again and his ears perked up. He looked up at Owen, almost like he was waiting for something. "You can eat, Kai. If you want to shift to eat I can get you a fork but I'm fine with you eating in wolf form."
Apparently permission was what Kai was waiting for, because he took a large bite of the eggs almost immediately. Owen was only halfway done with his by the time Kai had finished the entire plate and was licking his lips.
Owen chuckled. "Do you want more? There's plenty left."
Kai somehow perked up even more and his tail thumped against the floor. He really was like a puppy.
Owen got him the rest of the eggs and they both finished their breakfast. Once the dishes were washed, Owen found the bag of medications he'd left in his pants pocket and brought them into the kitchen. Kai was lying in the living room in a patch of sunlight coming through the window, watching him silently.
Once Owen read the instructions on the package, he put the vitamins and supplements into a small glass bowl and set them into the counter. "Kai, come get your meds."
Owen had turned around to get him something to eat the pills in, but he heard the bowl click against the counter and looked to find Kai had just eaten them plain. "Oh, Kai, I would've given you water or something."
He just angled his head, which made his ears flop to the side cutely. Owen shook his head and picked up the box that held his suppressants. "Oh, the suppressants are a shot. You've got to shift back for this one."
Kai whined and his ears dropped. Owen sighed and set the box on the counter. "I know, but these will keep you better. You can shift back once we're done, alright?"
Kai huffed, but soon he was standing in his human form. Well, mostly human. His wolf ears were still atop his head and he had a tail still.
"What's up with the ears?"
Kai shrugged and said simply, "I can't control when I shift fully or not."
"Huh. Okay." Owen opened the box and pulled out the small vial of medication and the actual shot. Once he'd prepped the correct amount of meds, using the intrusions on the box to make sure, he held up an alcohol swap and the shot. "Okay. We can stick ya anywhere but the needle needs to go all the way in."
