Kai's father took them to a base he'd never seen before. A warehouse, like the others, nestled between two steep cliffs with guard posts all around, and above, the property. The surrounding area was dense woodland, with barely enough of a clearing for the helicopter to land. He didn't know how long the flight had been, maybe a few hours, and he was sure the pilot had circled a few times to keep them from figuring out which direction they were really going.

One thing Kai was sure of though, was that they were still within state lines. He didn't know why, but his father never left the borders of their state, so they couldn't be too far from Owen's pack. He hoped so, anyway, or it would be near impossible for them to find this place. Though, he supposed getting his hopes up would be stupid. There was no getting out of this.

Kai and his mate would be trapped in hell until they died.

His father's men took them from the helicopter pad atop the warehouse to somewhere in the middle floors, through a series of elevators and stairs. Kai was muzzled and led on a slip-leash, and Owen was still chained but allowed to walk freely. Or as freely as he could with a gun aimed at his back.

They were thrown into a dimly lit room, not unlike the one Kia had grown up in. A toilet and sink to one side, concrete floors and walls, and iron rings embedded in multiple paces to chain them up wherever Kai's father wanted. Home sweet home.

Kai was made to watch as Owen's wrist restraints were secured to the floor in one corner of the room. Once he was secured, it was Kai's turn. His leash was removed and replaced with a collar like the one he'd worn all his life. Only the new one had spikes all around the inside in addition to the needles that would puncture the skin on either side of his spine. He supposed this was his punishment for leaving.

The man who put the collar on him pulled it tight enough to restrict his breathing, sneering down at him as he did so. "Don't get any ideas. This one can electrocute you."

Of course it could. No doubt the spikes digging into his skin were the conductors, meant to provide maximum pain if he disobeyed. Kai growled deep in his throat, earning a smack on his snout. "Shut up, mutt."

Kai held himself back from snapping at him. He had more than himself to worry about now, and no doubt his father would hurt Owen to punish him if he misbehaved.

As soon as his father's men left the room and locked them in, Kai was at his mates side, giving him a once-over with his nose to ensure he was okay. Owen scratched behind his ears, trying to seem calm, but Kai would hear the racing of his heart. He was scared. Kai was too.

Kai knew shifting would be painful with the new collar and his muzzle, so he was stuck in his canine form. He still tried to comfort Owen, leaning his furry body against his and nuzzling his head onto his shoulder.

Owen kissed his snout. "I'm okay, Kai. I'll be okay."

Kai wanted to believe him. He really did. But their situation made that difficult. They were at the mercy of his father, who he had royally pissed off by leaving, and Owen would be in danger is Kai so much as looked at anyone wrong. It terrified him.

Kai tried to keep himself from seeming agitated, but Owen seemed to know better. He didn't say anything, but he started running his hands through the thick fur on Kai's back and leaned his head on him. It was comfortable, or as comfortable as it could be considering the situation, sitting with his mate in silence. Perhaps they would have some peace here if they were alone.

That thought was short lived, though, when the door to their cell opened and Kai's father stepped inside. He smiled at his son. "We have quite a bit of time to make up for, Kai."

Kai shifted, covering Owen as best he could with his body. Kai's father rolled his eyes. "No need to be protective. I won't hurt him, so long as you do as you are told." Kai's father gestured to the door. "Come with me. Now."

Kai hated to leave his mate, chained an vulnerable, but he had no choice. He tore himself away and walked past his father, into the hall waiting for him. He flinched as the door slammed shut and his father patted his head. "Good boy."

He started walking, and Kai followed, unable to do anything else. He couldn't risk Owen.

"Now, you've been gone for a while. I see you've gotten much bigger, and stronger. Now that I don't have to worry about you acting out, I can allow you to reach your full potential. I want to see how strong you can get. How far I can push you." Kai's father smiled down at him, the light in his eyes making his fur stand on end. "We're going to start giving you a high-protein diet. Lots of nutrition. And lots of exercise. You'll be the strongest werewolf in history, Kai."

Kai wasn't sure that mattered, if he couldn't escape his father. But he didn't say anything in response. He couldn't.

"I've created a program to make you into the weapon I always wanted," His father continued. "Your omega traits are less than desirable, but you're only the first model. You will be more corporative, now, so I can test you to your limits. I know how to create more of you, but I need a guinea pig, for lack of a better term. To figure out how to train others to be the perfect soldiers."

Kai hated the sound of that. He loathed that he was unwillingly helping his father create an army of super-wolves. He hated that he had no choice.

Kai's father stopped at a door and grinned down at him. "Welcome to bootcamp, soldier."

He swung the door open, and Kai's heart dropped into his stomach. A huge room filled with everything his father needed to make him stronger, better, and more obedient. A new and improved lab for him to conduct his work.

Kai's ears pinned back as he slowly walked into the room. When his father slammed the door shut, Kai heard his future waiting for him.

And he wasn't sure it was one he would survive.

Well, another long awaited update. I have the rest of this book planned, its just the matter of writing it that is the hard part. I am working on it, but I'm back in college and life has been crazy. I will try to get the next chapter out within the next few weeks, I promise. Until next time, ghosties! Thank you for the continued support :)
