Summer 999 – Vinland
Tatia had only been in the village for a week, however, in that short time, the villagers had come to love her. Astra watched as the women gathered around her, laughing at something she had said. It wasn't often that Astra was envious of other women. After all, she had always had Elijah's attention so it didn't matter that most of the villagers seemed to avoid her at all cost or that the girls her age laughed at her when she walked past. She had her best friend.
And now, Astra stared across the town center, watching as Elijah pretended to sharpen his sword, but he didn't fool her. She watched as his eyes tracked the new arrival, smiling slightly every time the woman laughed. He was positively smitten with the woman and Astra was fuming at the idea.
She knew she had no right to feel that way. Elijah had asked her to start a life with him, to marry him and build a life together, but she had refused him. Astra never wanted that for herself. Yet she hadn't counted on him moving on and just how much it would hurt to watch. In her naive mind, she had pictured them remaining just as they were. But as she watched Elijah fawn over the brunette, her future began to appear more bleak.
He wasn't the only man who was captivated by Tatia's beauty. Astra also noticed Niklaus' interest. Although his was far more obvious than his older brother's. Niklaus had been hanging around, trying to get the young woman's attention. But Astra knew Niklaus was already too late. As much as Elijah was keeping an eye out for Tatia, she had been glancing over at him as she spoke. When their eyes would meet, they would both glance away, blushing at having been caught.
Elijah had volunteered to show her around the village and spent most of the week introducing her to the locals. Astra saw the look on his face when Tatia had passed her son over to him while she sorted through some furs at the shop. His face lit up as he held the small babe. It was all he had ever wanted for himself. To be a father and have the family that his parents had denied him.
Astra would never take that away from him. She wanted him to be happy. But that didn't mean she wanted to sit around and watch.
October 2013 – New Orleans, Louisiana
The air was brisk as Davina hurried down the street. With Halloween upon them, the witches were preparing for Samhain. It would be her first celebration as Reagent and she was determined that it would go off without a hitch. In order for that to happen, she wanted to make sure the witches were as strong as possible. While there was a tentative peace in New Orleans, she wasn't so naive to believe it would last.
The werewolves were one wrong look from tearing the vampires apart and she knew the witches were just waiting for her to slip up to cast her out. While the training sessions had brought many of them to her side, they couldn't look past her relationship with an Original nor could they forgive her for bringing back a vampire over her own kind. She was in desperate need of allies, yet not so desperate that she would align herself with the Mikaelsons.
