1022 – Tuscany, Italy

Gasping awake, her hands instinctively reached forward to steady herself as the wagon lurched to a stop. For weeks now she had been having visions, dreams really. Dreams of a life she could not recall. Of running through the woods with a dark haired boy and swimming in a watering hole with children she had never met. Yet, their names were on the tip of her tongue. Like a word she had once known, but long forgotten.

Then, suddenly it all came rushing back. She remembered who she was. But more importantly she remembered who he was.

Elijah.

It was then that she began to plan. Her family did not have the money to buy passage across the the great sea and even if they did, she knew her father would never be so generous as to fund her trip. So she had begun selling her talents discreetly. She found herself in the deep underbelly of London, telling fortunes and trading her herbs for silver.

It was there that Astra met the sailors who had made the voyage many times. She attempted to inquire subtly on the funds that would be required, however, she realized just how little she knew of the world when they asked for the precise location she planned to travel. She had never left their village. She could not name a port town to direct the sailors to. She didn't know how to get back home.

But that had never stopped her before. She was a witch after all.

Astra said her farewells to the sailors, discreetly relieving one unsuspecting sailor of his map of the known world. She could not let the sailors know of her magic. Sailors were often superstitious of women like her. She would have to hide who she was. Which had always been a part of this new life she lived. Astra attempted a tracking spell for her friend in the shadows of a nearby tavern, hoping not to draw any attention to herself.. While she did not have anything of Elijah's to use, she hoped her familiarity with him would be enough.

Yet when the spell suggested Elijah was much closer than expected, she began to doubt herself. Why would Elijah had left their village? And why would he have traveled to the old world where his family had lost so much?

No matter how many times she performed the spell, the results did not change. He was in a town called Tuscany.

Without hesitating, Astra had changed course, seeking transport to the continent.

Astra had been traveling for over a fortnight, hopeful that her magic had not led her astray. The closer she came to the small spot on the map, the more her stomach twisted in knots. She had no idea what to expect or if he would even be happy to see her. She could not imagine how confusing the situation would be. She tried to push down those feelings and focus on her happiness of being reunited with her friend once more. Her excitement peaked when she arrived at a large villa the towns folk had directed her to when she asked after an Elijah.
