Summer 1001 – Vinland
It had been a month since Esther's cryptic warning to Astra and she didn't know what to do with it. She hadn't dared tell Elijah. She couldn't imagine what he would do if he thought his own mother was a threat to his unborn child.
So instead, she had been keeping her distance. From Elijah and Tatia. The last thing she needed was for Esther to suspect she had been wrong and that it was actually Tatia. On numerous occasions, Esther had brought her various breads and ale. This was not typical of her and Esther's relationship and Astra could only imagine what she intended by this. Whether it was to kill her or simply kill the unborn child she believed Astra to be carrying.
She only hoped that Esther wasn't opposed to all of Elijah's offspring, rather just the ones she believed would be related to Astra herself. She knew how much the witch hated her and her family. Esther loved Tatia, she would love Tatia's child. Astra simply had to keep the secret a bit longer until Elijah was ready to tell Niklaus the truth of his plans with Tatia. Then he could announce their intentions to be married and the child shortly after. She would just be careful of what she ate or drank in the meantime.
But tonight was not the night to be concerned about that. Tonight was yet another full moon. Astra had just arrived back in the village with supplies from her home that Ansel had dropped off and commanded her to hurry. Something had put the wolves on edge tonight. He said he felt a change in the air. Maybe Esther had been right to be wary of this child. After all, she knew what first born witches brought with them.
"What's wrong?" Astra asked hurrying over to Elijah's side who was scanning the tree line. Glancing around, Astra was relieved that Esther was nowhere in sight.
"Henrik and Niklaus have not made it to the caves yet," Tatia supplied from behind Elijah, holding her son close to her chest. "Elijah was about to run off to look for them."
It didn't take an empath to know Tatia was annoyed. Not only was she beginning to feel the affects of her pregnancy, but she was caring for a young boy. The last thing she needed was Elijah running off into the woods with the full moon looming over them.
"I'll go find them," Astra offered immediately and Tatia threw her a thankful smile. One that fell off her face when Elijah's head whipped around to glare at Astra.
"Absolutely not," his voice was stern. "It's too dangerous."
"Because I'm a woman?" She raised an eyebrow at him. She had him trapped. "I'm a witch. What are you? I'll be safer in the woods and be able to track them much faster."
Astra ran off towards the woods before Elijah could say another word. The sun was already setting, they didn't have time to argue. She would find them and either get them to the woods or get them to a small space that she could easily protect them.
She was so focused on her task and her own anxiety, that she didn't even notice the nervous energy that followed after her.
