Summer 1001 – Vinland

"Niklaus," Astra called out as she trudged through the dense brush. She had attempted to reach out with her magic to feel for the missing brothers, however, the forest was full of frantic emotions. Everyone was attempting to make the last minute adjustments before hiding in the caves for the evening.

Her plan was to make it to the pack's land to see if Ansel could spare a few wolves to track down Niklaus and Henrik before the moon fully rose. If anything she could get to them and put up a protection from the wolves since they likely wouldn't have time to get all the way back to the system of caves under their village.

"Henrik," she shouted into the darkness, hoping her calls would break through and find their targets.

"Nik," Astra let out a relieved sigh, feeling a familiar presence behind her. Spinning around, Astra came up short at the sight of a different blonde than she had been expecting. "Esther, what are you doing out here."

"I could ask you the same thing," the witch smiled sweetly at her, which immediately signaled to Astra that something was wrong. She could count on one hand the number of times Esther looked at her with anything other than disdain. "It's dangerous out here."

"I can protect myself." Astra's words were strong but she couldn't help herself from taking a step back. Ever since Esther had accused her of being the one carrying Elijah's child, she had felt an deeper animosity from the woman. A deep hatred that had set her on edge. "But I should get going, Nik and—"

But before Astra could finish her thought, Esther had tossed a white powder in the air.

What are you doing? Astra attempted to speak but the words were stuck in her throat as she was unable to move, bound by the magic of the powder.

"I am sorry for this." Esther set down a bag that she had been caring. "But I can't risk it."

Astra watched helplessly, unable to move, as Esther pulled out a thick cord of rope. She wanted to scream for help or plead with Esther to release her, but her lips refused to part no matter how desperately she tried.

"I know Elijah will mourn your death, but we all must make sacrifices," Esther said as she positioned Astra in front of a nearby tree, winding the rope around her and the tree. "The wolves run through these woods. Elijah will blame them, but in the end he will come to his senses and continue his efforts to prevent war. You will be nothing but a distant memory."

If Astra could have, she would have gaped at the woman before her. The woman she had known since she was a small child was prepared to leave her in the woods, completely helpless to defend herself.

"I truly am sorry," Esther repeated as she stepped away from the dark haired witch, not once looking back
