Life went on. Dad would come every day to the shop and we'd talk. I found certain days were easier to talk to him than others. Guilt. Thats all i felt. Everytime i handed him a coffee, everytime i opened up my past to him, i felt it. It was like a disease surrounding every action i took. I just saw my mothers slumped and broken silhouette in mind, would she have ever have accepted the relationship me and dad were building?

Taylor on the otherhand was a forbidden dream. Id began to accept that the incredible times we had shared needed to remain the past. Even if it had meant i had gotten temporary happiness.

Marlo had come around. After my incredible brainwashing brownies he was won over. We talked and i told him everything... which is strange as me opening up was rare. He seemed to feel lots better once id explained.

To put it in his words instead of ignoring Taylor he would be "ridin him like a pony."

However when talking about my dad Marlo seemed lost for advice. He was as confused as me about the sudden appearance.

I hadnt noticed, but as id been in such deep thought that Marlo had snuck up behind me. Suddenly i was hoisted over his shoulder. I felt blood rushing towards my head and screamed at Marlo to put me down.

" Put me down you peasant!" then i began to kick.

"Fine- ow! Il put you dow- stop kicking me!" Marlo blurted out, carefully placing me back onto the ground.

Once i had two feet on the ground i glared up at Marlo, my eyes turning to slits. "You better run pretty boy..." i said slowly.

Marlos eyes widened with realisation. Then he double shuffled and ran screaming out of the door.

The shop had just closed and it was pretty late at night for customers so i took my apron off, turned over the window sign saying my shop was closed, locked up and ran after Marlo. I hadnt been running in so long and had completely forgotten just how much i loved it.

I spotted Marlos green jumper swerving around the corner of the street and ran after him. As i grew nearer i realised he had stopped and was panting with his hands on his knees. Suddenly i jumped on his back taking him completely by suprise. We ended up both dying on the floor with laughter.

"Kylie man. You are so scary when your mad."

i just laughed harder. We decided to go out for an icecream at a small restaurant/cafe near by.

As we sat down Marlos carefree expression disappeared.

"Whats wrong?" I asked noticing his change in mood.

"Well... theres two things.. its actually why i came to see you."

"go on..." i said, slightly nervous at his stiff stance,

"Well... last night someone knocked at my door at about 7ish. At first i ignored it cuz i was watching my netflicks and was very into the new episode-"

Marlo stopped as i gave him a look that screamed 'shut-up-and-get-on-with-the-story-or-i'll-cut-your-balls-off.

"Anyway, eventually i answered it as they kept knocking. Kylie... there were 3 reporters on my doorstep asking me about you."

Marlo paused watching my reaction. I kept my expression neutral but inside i was terrified.

He continued, "i refused to tell them anything. It was about you and Taylor. I refused them again but then when i tried to shut the door the started to shout things at me. Saying they would pay me... eventually i got the door shut"

My expression hadnt changed.

"I promise Kylie i didnt tell them anything. I would never do that to you."

"i know... dont worry Marlo i trust you. Ermm... you said there was a second thing."

"Oh yeh! so Kylie you have to understand this is just a theory. I totally get it if you hate me after i say this and to be fair i have no doubt you will."

"Marlo just tell me."

"Kylie i think your dads working for the reporters."

I frowned, trying to understand where he could have gotten this from.

"Kylie, think about it. He turns up out of the blue, he needs money. And remember you told me he said he was now surviving on a 'last resort.' I underst-"

I began to zone out i thought, and then it clicked... my dad was cheating me. It explained the wire i saw hanging out of his pocket. That was a microphone... my dad was recording me.

He needed the money and they were paying him.

My dad was betraying me. He didnt want to rebuild this relationship, he was using me.
Just like that my word crumbled. I couldnt see straight but i stood up. I faintly heard Marlo calling out to me, then gripping me as i stumbled to get out of the shop.

I chucked his hands off me and ran. Marlo didnt follow he knew i needed time and space to process what id just discovered.

I ran until all tears were blown out of my eyes by the wind rushing past my figure. All signs of familiar scenery had disappeared. Without realising it i had ran to the beach that me and Taylor had visited that night. Like before it was deserted.

I slowed my running down and jogged down to the sand. Dropping to my knees i let out a pain filled sob and cried. I cried for my nonexistant family. My heartless, uncaring father, and a boy who i loved but could never have.
