A large female owl, known as Longclaw hollered at a young blue Hedgehog as she shielded him from their attackers, the Echidna Tribe. She eventually took flight, with the hedgehog in the firm but safe protection of her talons.
The Echidnas might not be able to fly, but their ability to improvise is near instant. Almost as soon as Longclaw lifted off, they painted the sky with arrows. The owl weaved her way through the sharp weapons, still holding on to her horrified hedgehog.
One of the echidnas got a good shot and launched an arrow that pierced inside Longclaw's chest, causing the guardian to scream in pain and fall to the ground.
With no hesitation, she got to her feet and faced the Echidnas fearlessly, ignoring her bloody wound. She passed Sonic a pouch with the most valuable possession he could own:
Rings.
She opened one of them to a forest on the other side of the universe. Sonic looked towards the portal, then back as his caretaker with disbelief and fear in his eyes.
"If you're ever discovered, use these. Never stop running! Now go!" Longclaw's voice echoed as she gestured towards the portal.
Sonic ran through the and turned to see the tribe approach the guardian, blocking the now closing portal. He fearfully called for her.
"No! Longclaw!"
The guardian turned around with sorrow in her eyes as the portal continued to shrink.
"Goodbye, Sonic.." the guardian's voice faded along with the portal.
"NOO!!" Sonic screamed as he tried to get to her, but the portal was gone.
And so was she.
The world then shifted and changed. Sonic was no longer small, but he still had a fearful face on. Robotnik returned and began attacking Green Hills. Even though Knuckles and Tails were doing their best to keep his robots at bay, that wasn't Sonic's worry.
He noticed a a squadron of robots approach the building, zeroing in on someone. He then ran over and blew up one of the bots that noticed him, and completely froze when he saw who the robots were chasing.
It was you.
Sonic stood there for at least a second longer before he snapped out of it and ran over to the building. He zipped towards the building as fast as he could, over and under rubble. No matter how fast he went, it felt like the building was moving even faster away from him.
------------------------------------------------------------------
"No, no, no...please.." He mumbled.
Sonic twisted and turned is bed, silently rambling to himself.
"No...[Y/n]..." Tears began to form.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Sonic saw you on the edge top of the building, surrounded by robots all the while defending your friend fearlessly, almost how Longclaw defended him from the Echidnas. Robotnik was even there, appearing to be talking.
Sonic got on top of the roof on one of the other buildings and began making his way over to you, with shaking breaths each time. He stumbled on some rubble that collapsed under his shoe. He quickly got up but heard a loud boom. He looked up and saw a large explosion where you last were.
Sonic's knees legs felt numb. He fell to the ground, his eyes stinging like a fresh cut exposed to sanitizer. He began to cry, screaming out a wail.
"NOOOOO-
------------------------------------------------------------------
"-OOOOO!" Sonic screamed, jolting awake from his dream in a cold sweat. His head darted the room in a panic, soon placing his hand on his chest. He saw Tails softly sleeping in his bed, mumbling something and turning over.
Sonic then felt tears fill his eyes again. The thoughts from his nightmare filled his mind. Losing Longclaw, then losing the one person he grew attached to since his arrival on earth. It was too much for him to handle. He looked around again, his shaky breathing soon turning into hyperventilation. He felt like the world was coming in on him from all sides, despite the silence.
Next thing he knew he called your name.
"[Y/N]!!"
You shifted awake from your slumber and looked around with tired eyes. You glanced at your clock, which read 11:45. You shrugged and let your head hit the pillow.
"[Y/N]!!!!"
You then sat up and looked to your door and heard loud crying. You quickly got out of bed and put on your slippers, quickly leaving your room and entering Sonic and Tails's. Sonic was curled up, with his hands on his face, continuing to desperately call for you.
"Hey, hey! Sonic! It's ok..! I'm right here, see?"
Sonic flinched at the sound of your comforting voice and looked up towards you. That cocky smile he once had was gone, replaced with a fearful set of pinkish emerald green eyes and a quivering lip. He was shaking all over. You walked over and knelt down, opening our arms, which Sonic didn't hesitate to dive in.
"I'm right here..you're okay, buddy." You cooed as you hugged him tightly, with him hugging even tighter, still crying. You figured he had a bad nightmare, since he woke up this badly.
You gently rubbed Sonic's back as you began to cradle him, while he silently whimpered in to your chest.
"I-i thought I l-l-lost y-you.." The azure hedgehog, stuttered.
"Everything's alright, buddy. Breathe. I'm here for you." You softly replied in his ear.
He looked up at you trustingly, wiping his tears and keeping close to you. He was still shaking but not as violent as you first found him. He slowly began to close his eyes while his breathing slowly relaxed.
"That's it." You smiled, sitting up. He then flashed his eyes open and jumped into your arms again, catching you by surprise.
"No! Don't leave me! Please..!" Sonic whined as he burrowed his face into your chest again.
You calmed him down once again. It's clear after the scare he got he wouldn't want to sleep alone. You looked over at Tails who looked over at you with closed eyes.
"Is everything ok?" He asked, as he began to around aimlessly.
"Yep, nothing big going on, other than Sonic having a nightmare." You replied.
"Oh, I hope he's ok.." Tails said worriedly as he yawned and flopped back down, too tired to even open his eyes.
You took the traumatized hedgehog to your bed and laid down. He was still latched to your shoulder, smiling as he drifted off to sleep. You stroked his quills, despite a couple managing to get stuck on your pajamas, but that could always be handled later.
Right now, you had a hedgehog to comfort.
One you're here for, always.
