The following day after his discussion with Eros, during high noon, Cupid allowed his mind to wander as he stared blankly at the wall of his palace that stood before him. And — after an overwhelming sense of clarity washed over him like a tsunami — he has ever since then been trying to move on from his feelings for Y/n S/n, but it seemed damn near impossible. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw her face, her smile, and the way her eyes lit up when she saw him.

Cupid had always been a model cherub — dutiful, responsible, and devoted to his task of spreading love throughout the world. But as he was all by his lonesome, he began to feel a restlessness growing within him. He longed for something more, something unacceptable and prohibited.

Now, pushing the door of his palace open and exiting his safe place, he began to flit from cloud to cloud, his mind continuing to surround a certain mortal woman who he had been tasked with avoiding — a beautiful and enigmatic creature who had captured his heart in a way that no other ever had. He knew that he was forbidden from interfering in her life, but the thought of breaking the rules was exhilarating.

Additionally, the mere mention of her caused his heart to be set aflame, burning with passion.

He couldn't stop thinking about their brief encounter at the bus stop. It had happened a few hours ago and yet it felt like it had felt like an entire millennium. As he flopped down on the nearest cloud, Cupid frowned and begrudgingly pondered the question of whether his love for her was worth risking everything he had with his family and his duties as a god. He knew that his actions could have severe consequences, not just for him, but for everyone around him.

He thought about Eros, his eldest brother, who had warned him about the dangers of his actions. He remembered how upset Eros had been when he had found out that Cupid was still smitten with Y/n. The god of love couldn't help who he loved and it's not like he knew of any home remedies to shake off this feeling.

Deep down in his heart, Cupid knew that Eros was right, as much as he hates to admit it. But the fact of the matter is that he has never felt this way about anyone before, and it scared him. He knew that he had to be careful, but he couldn't bring himself to let go of his feelings for Y/n.

And as he remained there, he felt a deep sense of sadness and frustration, for no matter how many arrows he shot, love seemed to be in short supply.

Suddenly, a figure flew up beside him, landing on the cloud with a graceful flutter of wings. Cupid didn't immediately turn to look, given that he had his conflicted emotions to deal with. But then, he felt a presence beside him, and he glanced over to see none other than Eros but as Cupid looked closer, he saw something in Eros' eyes that made his heart sink.

There was a darkness there, a seriousness that Cupid had never seen before. Σκατά. He shouldn't have acknowledged his sibling. Cupid braced himself for the lecture that he knew was coming. "Eros," he said, trying to keep the annoyance out of his voice.

"'Eros'?" The god of lust repeated, sounding offended. "Is that all you have to say to me after everything that's happened?" He cocked his head to the side.

Cupid sighed. He knew that Eros was right to be upset with him, but he didn't want to argue. He was exhausted. He didn't have the time for this. "I know, Eros, we talked about this already. And I'm sorry that I have caused so much harm to our relationship... I didn't mean to make you angry. You have my sincerest apologies for that," Cupid reminded his eldest sibling, sounding defeated. "I know that I need to be careful and I really am trying my best. You just don't know her as I do." He added even though he has only known Y/n for a little over two weeks.

"Careful?" Eros repeated, incredulous, but his tone managed to surprise Cupid since it was his brother's idea to be secretive when it came to Y/n. "I just talked with Mother and... I hate to admit it but she is starting to get worried about you. She knows something is up. Heed my warning, brother: forget about what I said and forget about this mortal. You're risking everything for a mere human who will never understand what you are or what you do," he paused and took a moment to chew on the inside of his cheek. "I don't know what to do with you, Cupid. You need to stop this instant before the rest of our kind will find out about your actions."

Cupid was not amused. He stood up, his wings unfurling behind him. "Stop it, Eros. You have no right to make speak ill toward Y/n and me." He spat but as soon as her name escaped his lips, he felt his breath hitch.

Βλάκας. Βλάκας. Βλάκας.

Eros took note of the mortal's name as he rolled his eyes. "Oh, lighten up, Cupid. She's only a human. You're immortal. Even if you somehow managed to work something between the both of you, you'd outlive her." He stated but Cupid wasn't having it.

Without another word, he launched himself off the cloud and dove toward the earth below. Eros watched him go, a look of surprise on his face. "What's his fucking issue?" He muttered to himself.

Meanwhile, Cupid soared through the sky, his heart pounding with anger and frustration. He knew he needed to find Y/n and make things right. He flew over forests and rivers, past mountains and valleys until he finally landed in Meadowbrook.

It was a beautiful place, with rolling hills and vibrant wildflowers. Cupid searched the area, looking for any sign of the elegant Y/n.
