The day started as any other. Y/n L/n groaned as her alarm clock blared, signaling that it was time for her to ear up. Much to her dismay, she had been called in early to cover one of her coworker's shifts which meant that she had to wake up much earlier than usual. The h/c-haired woman rubbed her eyes and sat up in bed, trying to shake off the grogginess that cling to her. She know that she couldn't afford to be late, so, begrudgingly, Y/n rolled out of her bed and stumbled over to her closet.

She rummaged through her clothes, trying to find something comfortable yet acceptable to wear but ultimately settled on tossing on the first decent-looking outfit that she could find. As a college student being paid minimum wage at her job at The Bijou movie theatre, she didn't have a whole lot in her apartment. Sure, she did have a few things to keep herself grounded but food-wise? It was almost as if she was a servant in the medieval times.

Her diet consists of coffee (or water), ramen, oven pizza, Dino nuggets, the occasional salad, free samples that were located on-campus, and seventy percent off food at her work which she managed to achieve through benefits. It was embarrassing, to say the least, but whenever she had the opportunity to save leftovers from takeout or receive some meals from her parents, it was as if her prayers have been answered.

"Should I eat breakfast?..." she said out loud, pondering the idea before allowing her optics to shift between the digital clock on her phone and her lonely kitchen. Shrugging her shoulders, Y/n concluded that she had nothing else to lose and she needed to take a minute to prepare herself a lunch since she didn't know how much longer she can sneak taking the variety of chips, candy, and popcorn from her work.

Once she was ready, Y/n grabbed her back and headed out of her apartment complex. The morning shift would be tough but she had to do her best to take on whatever may come her way.

Meanwhile, high above the clouds, was Cupid whose large wings flapped whilst his eyes scanned the bustling city of Meadowbrook below, his trusty bow and arrow at the ready. As the god of love, he was always on the lookout for couples who needed his help, but today was different. Today, he was just enjoying the view, the cityscape below him a tapestry of humanity, love, and life.

It was his weekly patrol, and he was determined to make some love connections in hopes to meet the daily quota. He spotted two high schoolers walking side by side, lost in conversation. He didn't waste another second to retrieve two arrows with a barbed golden tip from his quiver which he used to aim and shoot in quick succession. The first arrow hit the boy, and the second arrow hit the girl. They both felt a sudden jolt of electricity, a spark that ignited in their hearts. They turned to each other, their eyes locking in a moment of understanding.

"Hey, do you want to grab a coffee with me sometime?" The boy asked, suddenly feeling bold.

The girl smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "I would love to," she replied with a prominent blush spreading throughout her facial features.

As they walked away hand in hand, Cupid watched from above with a sense of respectful pride rushing through him but he was far from done for the day. But it was moments like this that made his job so fulfilling. He knew that he had just brought two people together who were meant to be, and he couldn't wait to see where their love story would go.

Suddenly, something in his peripheral caught his undivided attention. It was a girl walking down the street, head down, her features twisted in a scowl. While it was almost like a sixth sense for the god of love to realize that her name was Y/n but it was abundantly clear that Cupid had never seen her before. If he did, he would've remembered such an enchanting face. Something about her drew him in. Something that he couldn't quite explain or put his finger on.

And so, he followed her silently, watching as she made her way to the local coffee shop where she approached the counter. She ordered a latte with a shot of vanilla and a croissant on the side, and Cupid couldn't help but smile at her choice. He had always been fond of those who had a sweet tooth.

Y/n paid for her order and found a table by the window, where she sat down to enjoy her breakfast. As she sipped her latte and savored the flaky goodness of her croissant, Cupid watched her intently. He had never seen anyone so beautiful and captivating as herself. He then tilted his head with curiosity as he watched as she took a sip, her face softening slightly at the taste.

But then, something in her expression shifted, and she let out a small groan. "Why did I have to get the morning shift today?" She muttered to herself, her frustration palpable.

Cupid felt his heart stir. He had never been interested in mortals before, but there was something about Y/n that he couldn't resist. As she finished her coffee, tossed her cup in the trash, gathered her things, and headed out the door, disappearing from Cupid's view which prompted his heart to feel a pang of sadness. He didn't want her to leave just yet. He wanted to spend more time watching her, learning about her, and maybe even introducing himself. Not just yet though. He had only created over sixty-seven couples today which is child's play.

Cupid sighed, feeling a mix of excitement and frustration. He knew that he had to be patient and take his time getting to know Y/n. But he couldn't help feeling a little jealous of those mortals who got to interact with her every day, while he remained invisible and unseen.

Still, Cupid felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe one day, he would have the chance to reveal himself to Y/n and show her how much he cared. But for now, he would continue to follow her from afar, waiting for the perfect moment to make his move. This didn't mean that he couldn't continue to follow her.

Cupid soon exited from the remote coffee shop and hurried back toward Y/n as if they were joined at the hip. His clouded eyes were trained on her every move.

When she was walking down the street, Cupid fly mere feet above the asphalt ground and couldn't help but notice that her energy was magnetic and he knew that he had to get closer. He always made himself invisible to the humans around them for the sake of not drawing too much attention to him since as the god of love, his appearance makes him stick out lick a sore thumb. Shaking these thoughts away, Cupid continued to float alongside her as she trudged to her next destination.

With each step, he felt his heart pounding faster, his admiration for her this peculiar mortal stronger.

Finally, they reached her workplace, and Cupid watched as she disappeared inside. He knew that he had work to do, but for the first time in his life, he wasn't sure how to proceed. He had never fallen in love before, and the feeling was overwhelming.

But as he stood there, lost in thought, he saw two coworkers laughing and joking as they walked past him as if he were some sort of ghost. Y/n was gone and there was now a vacant in his heart but slowly and surely, a prominent smirk appeared on Cupid's delicate features, feeling his heart swell with bittersweet happiness.

He knew that he had a new mission in life, and that was to help Y/n find the love that he knew she deserved. Even if he has to break the rules and take her for himself.
