When Cupid and Y/n's date came to a close, he was on edge. To say the least. While he had a wonderful time getting to know the love of his life further than having to watch her from afar, the fact that Hermes saw them mingling with one another shook him to his core. Who knew what could be waiting for him back home? As he and Y/n exited the restaurant, he couldn't help but stare up into the sky. Thinking.
Dare he travel back to Mount Olympus when this is all over?
"Hey..." the woman beside him crossed her arms over her chest and then stared at him. Her eyes were laced with concern. "Is everything alright? You seem a little upset." She noted.
In response, Cupid pushed back two handfuls of hair and plastered a strained smile in hopes to ease her worried senses. "I'm sorry about that," he started by apologizing. "I was just thinking..." he admitted. He didn't bother to give specifics because Y/n wouldn't believe it even if he told the truth. If by chance it got to the point where Cupid would have to reveal his true form, they wouldn't be able to be together anymore. Why, that question maybe? Cupid didn't know.
But he did recall a time when that happened to his eldest brother, Eros when he made frequent visits with a woman by the name of Psyche. Ever since she found out about Eros being a god, Zeus forbade the lustful young man from seeing her anymore. It would explain why Eros was so cruel and frantic to Cupid as soon as he mentioned Y/n, with the rules and all.
"Do you promise?"
Blinking rapidly, "I... promise what?" Cupid cocked his head to the side as if he were a confused puppy. He had almost entirely forgotten about his previous statements.
"That you're okay and that nothing is worrying you." Y/n specified and continued to stare at him, almost accusatorially. Half-expecting him to come clean and say what has him so worked up. Her anxieties feared that it had something to do with her and their meal earlier. Did she make a feel of herself? She prayed that she left somewhat of a good impression on him. But there was only one person that could confirm or deny that. And that just so happens to be Cupid.
Cupid's smile faltered for a moment and it unfortunately didn't go unnoticed. He straightened his posture and shifted slightly, so he could fully face his date. He dramatically put one hand over his heart. "I promise." He said before dropping his hand to his side, however, it was soon lifted again, but not from his own doing. It was because of Y/n.
This sudden reality hit Cupid like a truck and, despite being a professional in the field of love, he felt like putty in her hands as he tensed up slightly. His face burned and he could only stumble over his words, but nothing came out. Just unfinished sounds. Cupid looked at her with widened eyes since it was as clear as day that he could not lead the conversation further.
"Okay, I believe you," Y/n gave his surprisingly soft hand a reassuring yet gentle squeeze as she offered him one of her smiles that made Cupid's eyes soften and become visibly relaxed. He could stay like this forever, if possible. "And... if you don't mind, do you mind walking me home?" She gestured over to the towering apartment complex across the street. Even though the journey is laughably small, he was no idiot.
Cupid may be the god of love, but he has seen how mortals have forgotten the word completely. Taking advantage of others to chase after their own lust. It was disgraceful in his eyes and it was times like this where Cupid was eternally grateful that he wasn't given his brother's job. He was content where he was at.
"I-I..." Cupid stammered and feared that he'd somehow get her into trouble or, even worse, hurt by the gods and goddesses that loomed above. Soon, he cleared his throat and let out a deep breath. Regaining his composure. He has nothing to be afraid of at the moment because as long as she's with him, they cannot hurt her. It would bring too much attention. "I would be honored." He finished.
When they finally reach the door to Y/n's apartment, she turns to face him, her eyes reflecting gratitude. "Thank you again for the wonderful dinner, Cupid. I had a great time." She said, softly.
Cupid, caught off guard by her words even though she had spent half the night already thanking them for their — what he liked to call it — date, stammers for a moment before finding his voice. "Y-You're welcome, Y/n. I'm glad you enjoyed it. But it was really nothing." He smiled.
Y/n's grin widens, and without warning, she leans forward, pressing a gentle kiss on Cupid's cheek. The god of love's heart skips a beat and he stands there, stunned, his mouth slightly ajar. 'Oh, gods! What just happened? She kissed me! I... I can't believe it! I must be dreaming...' he thought, amazed. But these are interrupted when the moral woman steps back.
"Goodnight... Cupid." After offering him one more lingering glance, Y/n turns and walks through her apartment door, leaving Cupid standing there, still dazed. He waits for a moment, ensuring she's safely inside before he bursts with pure joy, silently cheering in the hallway.
'I can't believe it! This is amazing! She kissed me! I must be the luckiest man in the world!' His racing thoughts continued. He was acting like a little kid in a candy store and after a moment of jubilation, Cupid regains his composure and steps out of the apartment complex.
To his surprise, he finds Hermes, the messenger of the gods, waiting for him nearby. Cupid's face immediately changes, the flush of embarrassment returning. "H-Hermes? What are you doing here?" He nervously stammered, pretending as if he didn't notice him eavesdropping on his and Y/n's dinner.
Hermes raised an eyebrow, clearly not impressed. He was no fool. "Well, Cupid, word travels fast. A little birdie told me that you've fallen head over heels for some human." He addressed the elephant in the room.
His breath hitched, and the god of love fidgets under Hermes' scrutinizing gaze, his cheeks still flushed. "I... I haven't done anything wrong. It was just one kiss on the cheek," he said, somewhat defensively. "She does not know that I am not from his earth. She has done no wrong. We have done no wrong." He finished.
Hermes smirks, clearly amused by Cupid's discomfort. "One kiss, huh? It seems like more than that, judging by that look on your face." He said, teasingly. Hermes chuckles at his distance further before approaching him where he pats the young god on the back, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Well, well, Cupid, maybe it's time for a heart-to-heart talk about your love life. But for now, let's handle the trouble you've gotten yourself into."
Cupid's eyes widen, realizing the gravity of the situation. "W-What?" Did Amor truly snitch on him and tell the other gods and goddesses about his whereabouts tonight? He prayed otherwise, but, then again, it was foolish for him to put all his trust in his youngest sibling.
"Let's head back home. Zeus wants to talk to you."
