Almost right after Cupid had deliberately avoided the notion of moving on Y/n, something darker was roaming in Mount Olympus. An overwhelming fear. A rumor. One that threatened to strike down Cupid right where he stood. And who was in possession of such power, whose tongue speaks daggers?
It was Aphrodite. His mother. And one thing is to be sure: she is worried and has become a prisoner to her overthinking mind.
The elegant woman paced around her chamber, her thoughts consumed by her son, Cupid. He had been acting strange, more secretive and frantic than usual, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. She couldn't help but fear that Cupid was breaking the rules, especially when it came to falling for a mortal but her bias blinded her.
He wouldn't do that, betray them, would he? As the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite had always been lenient when it came to her relationships with humans. She had fallen in love with mortals herself, and she understood the attraction that her son felt towards them. Eros too — he is known to be more reckless when it came to this lenient application.
But it made sense. Her son had been acting strange lately, more secretive and frantic than usual. She knew her son better than anyone else and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
However, there were rules that the gods had to abide by, and Cupid knew them well. He wasn't like them. He has always been a bit different, a strange boy, but Aphrodite would've never thought that it'd come to this. Alas, her maternal instincts made her feel almost sympathetic toward her son, he has been bound and restrained from sharing his eternal love with the world. His heart was shackled and it was Zeus who could free him.
Finally, unable to contain her fears any longer, Aphrodite made her way to the throne room where Zeus, her husband and the king of the gods, sat on his throne, his lightning bolt in hand. As she entered, the other gods and goddesses fell silent, watching as she made her way to the throne.
"Zeus," Aphrodite said, her voice shaking with emotion, "I need to talk to you. Alone. It's urgent."
Zeus' undivided attention shifts from the others to his wife. "You'll have to excuse me. We will continue this forthwith," getting up from his throne and brow furrowed in concern, he followed behind Aphrodite blindly as she lead him outside. "What is it, my love?" He asked.
"Cupid has been acting strange lately," Aphrodite said. "More secretive and frantic than usual. I'm worried about him... I fear that he has disobeyed us."
Zeus let out a small chuckle. "Aphrodite, you know that the rules apply to all of us," he said. "But you also know that mortals are irresistible to us. Cupid is no exception."
"I know that," Aphrodite replied. "But we have to be careful. We can't let our love for mortals cloud our judgment. We have a responsibility to uphold these laws. We cannot afford Cupid to be led astray."
Zeus nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "Yes, yes... you're absolutely right," he agreed. "We can't let our emotions control us. But we also have to trust our children. Cupid knows the rules all too well and he knows the consequences of breaking them."
"But what if he's in trouble?" Aphrodite asked. "What if he's fallen for a mortal who's in danger, or who doesn't reciprocate his feelings? If he loses too much of his true self, we will have no other choice but to cast him out..."
Zeus shook his head. "We can't always protect our children from their own mistakes," he said. "But we can guide them, and we can trust them to make the right decisions. Besides, he is young, and doesn't quite understand things as you and I."
Aphrodite sighed, feeling a bit reassured by her husband's words. "I just don't want anything to happen to him," she couldn't help but frown.
"I know," Zeus said, reaching out to take her hand. "But we have to have faith in our children, and in each other. We are gods, and we have a responsibility to protect the mortals and to uphold the rules. But... I must ask. What had prompted this worry?" He partially demanded, his once soft voice turning into something more intimidating.
Aphrodite hesitated, unsure how to approach the subject delicately. "I just had a feeling," she said.
Zeus shook his head, his eyes blazing with anger. "So... you have no evidence to support your claim," he said. "You are accusing our son of breaking the rules without any proof. I will not stand for this nonsense."
Aphrodite was taken aback by her husband's sudden outburst. She had never seen him so upset before. "I'm not accusing him," she said, her voice shaking. "As I said, I just have a feeling that something is not right. Surely, we can talk to him about this once he returns to us."
Zeus let out a deep sigh, his anger subsiding slightly. "Aphrodite, you know how we feel about the mortals," he said. "We are allowed to have relationships with them, but we must follow the rules. Cupid knows this better than anyone else. He would never do anything to jeopardize his position among the gods." He concluded.
Aphrodite bit her lip, feeling foolish for bringing up the topic. She knew that she was biased when it came to her relationships with mortals. She had always been lenient with them, bending the rules to suit her desires. She couldn't help but wonder if she was projecting her own feelings onto Cupid.
Zeus noticed the uncertainty in her eyes and softened his tone. "I understand your concern, Aphrodite," he said. "But you have to trust our son. He knows what he's doing. He has grown to be quite the young man, and he's capable of making his own decisions."
Aphrodite nodded, feeling slightly relieved. She knew that Zeus was right. Cupid was a god, and he had a responsibility to follow the rules. She couldn't let her own biases cloud her judgment. Nevertheless, if it was true that he was latched onto a mortal, then it will prove itself to be an issue. They will have to do everything in their power to prevent this relationship from happening.
