Chapter 14: A Long Walk Home
1:30 am- New Years Day
A brisk cold air shivered up Matt's spine as he pulled his coat tighter. He still had about 10 more blocks to walk until he made it home. The streets were surprisingly quiet where he was, all you could hear was Matt humming a little tone. He imagined that everyone was in the bars or clubs, still celebrating the New Year. Matt didn't particularly like walking alone in this part of the city, especially at night but this was the quicker route and he figured he could handle himself. He was almost glad no one was around but he thought it was really odd and way too quiet so he continued to hum to stay calm.
One single light post flickered in the distance, like one you might see in a horror movie right before someone gets killed. Matt noticed and thought about a horror movie he'd seen but shrugged it off and told himself he was being silly and continued on. As he got closer a shadow figure appeared in the light. Matt stopped in his tracks trying to decide if he should turn around and go a different way. Before he could decide the shadow figure started running toward him. Matt ducked into the alley and waited for whomever it was to pass. Luckily, it was just a late night jogger in a hoodie so Matt took a deep breath and turned toward the street again. Then all of sudden, Matt could feel someone behind him but it was too late, a hand grabbed his face and pulled him down. The smell of chloroform was all he could remember before he passed out.
