Chapter 17: Leonardo

11:00am

Riley ran home hoping to get to the TV before her parents saw her on the news. It was too late, as soon as she walked through the front door, her parents were waiting, arms crossed, looking at their daughter with anger and disappointment.

"What the Hell is this?!" her father started in, pointing to the paused TV, on it, a picture of Riley with the caption "False Rape Allocations, Riley comes clean."

Susan looked at Simon, "Darling, language!" then looked at her daughter dotingly, "Now, Honey, what your father means is why would you lie to us? Your father and I love you very much but we are very disappointed in you."

"I can't even look at you right now. Go to your room immediately! I don't want to see you until dinner is served. Until then, your mother and I will discuss your punishment."

"But dad, I can explain!" Riley tried to say. But her dad interrupted.

"GO! NOW!" Her father yelled.

Riley ran upstairs as her father told her to. She didn't like disappointing them, nor did she like saying those things on TV but if she hadn't Matt would probably be dead. She laid down on her bed, hoping that Matt was released and that he would call or text her any minute to tell her that he was okay.

6:30pm Hours went by and still nothing. No word from Matt. I was getting really worried that Owen hadn't followed through with his end of the deal and released Matt.

Riley, hearing voices and the smell of food coming from the dining room, got up and went down to see what was going on.

"Riley, dear, so nice to meet you," a woman said hugging Riley, "I'm Cecilia and this is my son Leonardo." She said as Leonardo held out his hand for Riley to shake it.

Leonardo smiled charmingly at Riley as she took his hand. He is so handsome, Riley thought but a twinge of guilt ran over her. Matt was still missing or possibly dead and she is already thinking of another guy. This was wrong.

"Riley, we bought the property next door so that Cecilia and Leonardo can move in. That way Cecilia can be here full-time to help around the house and watch you while your father and I are away." Susan said happily.

"Mother, I told you didn't need a babysitter. I'm about to be 17. This is ridiculous," Riley said.

"Relax, Riley, she's not your babysitter. She is just going to keep you out of trouble when we're not here. Which reminds me, phone," Her father said, holding out his hand.

"But DAD," Riley protested. "I need it! What if it something happens?"

"That's what Cecilia is here for. Or you can borrow a friend's phone for emergencies. Now, give it here." Her father said demandingly.

Reluctantly, Riley hands over her phone. "When will I get it back?"

"When you earn it back," responded her father.

7:00pm

We all sat down for dinner. Tonight's dinner consisted of steak, green beans, and potatoes. Leonardo was sitting in front of me, he noticed me staring and smiled. "Riley, would you like to go see a movie with me tomorrow night?" He asked.

"Are you asking my daughter on a date?" My father butted in.

"Relax, Darling, he's a nice boy. A true gentleman, I'm sure Riley would be just fine." My mother said defending Leonardo.

I looked at everyone and then back at Leonardo, "I don't know if that's a good idea, I'm seeing someone right now."

"That Matt boy?" My father said sternly.

"Yes, father, Matt. I haven't heard from him in a while. I'm worried." She said responding to her father.

"Maybe, it's a sign you should go out with me," Leonardo said.

I looked at him, not knowing what to say except that I'll think about it.

11:07pm

Cecilia and Leonardo had gone home. Mom and dad were asleep, and I am just laying here staring at my ceiling wondering if Matt is even alive anymore.

Riley soon cried herself to sleep, not knowing she would soon find her answer.
