Estella
A gleam of silver catches my eye from the corner of my large room. I glance up from the letter I'm in the process of writing to Sirius and turn my gaze to the shimmer I spotted.
Sitting on my window seat is an odd-looking parcel with silver string tying the brown parchment around whatever it may be that it contains. I stand from the seat at my polished oak desk and approach the parcel with interest bubbling inside me.
Seating myself on the cushiony surface beneath the window sill, I take the parcel in my hands and tear the silver string from the mysterious package. It dances to the ground slowly, whirling as it falls to the hardwood floor like the feather of a swan.
With careful hands I unfold the thick brown parchment to reveal a black leather-bound book, it's old looking and smells of tobacco and potion ingredients, there are burns over the cover and it sports the words "Owl Bullock's Secrets of the Darkest Art" on the front cover in emerald writing.
Eyebrows furrowed, I drop the parchment to the floor where it joins the silver string, and open the mystifying book to the index.
Dark Magic 101
Horcruxes: To create and keep protected
Dark potion ingredients: where to find and how to store them
Unforgivable Curses: How to and the Trick to achieving perfection in all three
Darkest ways of murder
Darkest Witches and Wizards: How to live up to their legacyThose were the first half of the index, as they progressed the chapter names got even worse.
Who is sending me a book like this? I reach down and pick up the parchment again and flip it over, scanning for some kind of signing or name, or address. Nothing.
"Bellatrix!" I call out, thinking maybe she put it in here as a bit of an early birthday present, several seconds later my door opens and my dark curly-haired sister comes in, wearing nothing but a black corset and lace underwear.
"Yeah?" she asks me, her tone making me think she was in the middle of doing something before I called.
"Did you put this in here?" I hold up the book and inquire,
"No, is that Owl Bullock? I've read all his books, practically memorized them."
"I'm sure you have," I mumble, "Who put it here then? There's no note or name or anything, it was all packaged up and everything."
"I don't know, you should read it though." she tells me, "And why aren't you getting ready yet?"
"Because we have five hours until people start arriving."
"Get ready soon," she sighs before leaving, shutting my door behind her.
My eyes fall back down the thick book in my lap, my mind pondering where or who it came from.
