TW: Car crash, mentions of blood, death, and injuries
Wednesday's POV:
I heard a crash followed by glass shattering and skidding on the road. I stand up and look to the front of us. We are inches away from hitting the bus in front of us.
"Shit! Wednesday are you okay?" Xavier's voice calls from behind.
I don't answer. The kids on the bus begin screaming and yelling. Their voices echo off the walls, making them ten times louder. I look around us, seeing parts of cars roll around. "Enid." I whisper.
Next thing I know, my legs are sprinting off the bus, heading to Enid's. The bus driver calls out to me but doesn't run after me. I stop when I see her, along with a few other students rushing off the bus to look at the scene in front of us. There are parts scattered everywhere. Only two cars were involved in the crash but one car is upside-down with the drivers side bulged in, and the other car is about 30 feet away, with its front smashed. Enid looks over at me and I notice a red bump on her head. I reach up and lightly touch the bump.
"I'm fine. I just bumped my head."
I nod and look back at the scene. I run up to the flipped over car and begin checking the seats. I walk up and carefully go on my knees. I look at the driver's seat to see a middle-aged man. His head was bleeding, dripping down his face to his off-white shirt. I tap his shoulder and call to him but he doesn't answer. I reach my arm further into the window to check his pulse. I wait for several seconds but there was no heartbeat. His chest was still and his pulse was nonexistent. He's gone. We will just have to wait for people to come and drag him out.
As I get up I glace at his consul. He had a wallet that had a woman and a little boy. They were gathered around a Christmas tree and the two were holding the boy up to put a decoration on the tree. I sigh softly and rush to the other car.
I approach the car and see a woman in the driver's seat. I reach through the window and feel her pulse. It is strong and she doesn't seem to be bleeding too bad. I watch her chest as see that she is breathing evenly. I tap her arm and call to her. The woman remains in the same state but I hear a small whimper from the backseat. I look through the back window and see a little girl, about 3 or 4
"Hello. What is your name?" I ask, hoping she stays alert.
She gives me a scared look but doesn't answer.
"It's okay. I just want to help. What is your name?"
"Maya." She says softly.
"Hi Maya. I'm Wednesday. How old are you?"
"Four."
I tug on the door but it is jammed closed.
"Ma'am you can't be over here." A man calls behind me.
I don't acknowledge his comment. "Has anyone called 911?"
"Yes. But you should stay over here while we wait."
"There is a little girl. I have to break the window to get her out. Do you have a blanket or towel?"
He eventually gives up and begins to help. "Yes. It's in my truck." He runs to go get it and I look back into the backseat at Maya.
"Maya?"
She looks back over at me.
"Do you hurt anywhere?"
"No."
"Can you move your head side to side like this." I demonstrate the movement.
She turns her neck and nods towards me. I sigh in relief.
