The Last Letter

I looked at my hand, weighing up my options. It was the last play; the score was tight.

"C'mon. What ya gonna do?" my opponent taunted me.

"Shuttup," I muttered, and glared across the table. "I'm thinking." I cursed silently. If only I had played better, I wouldn't have been in this bind.

My opponent drummed his fingers on the tabletop.

"There." It was the best I could do. I laid all but one of my tiles on the board. "Double letter score." It wasn't enough. The last letter in my hand - a 'Q' - was going to cost me dear.
