" cheong-san, what if they know i was bit? they'll leave me." hae-yi whispered to him.

" don't worry, we'll be fine. i won't let them leave without you." he reassured her.

" 11 survivors confirmed." one soldier spoke into his headset as the other checked the group's body temperatures. hae-yi slightly tensed up and used some of her hair to hide her red eye as a soldier walked towards her and cheong-san. he measured cheong-san's temperature first, and the device beeped and turned green.

" clear." the soldier stated, before moving to hae-yi. he pointed the blue light at her forehead and hae-yi waited nervously, as cheong-san watched from the corner of his eye. the device turned red, and the soldier held it up to his face to get a better view of the number.

" temperature is 34.5 degrees." he uttered as hae-yi anxiously looked over to meet cheong-san's stare, " providing a warming blanket."

another soldier walked over and unfolded an aluminium blanket before placing it around hae-yi, who nodded politely. " one has hypothermia, the rest are normal." the soldier spoke into his microphone again.

the group of four soldiers gathered together and talked about how they would rescue the students after completing their 'mission'.

" see, it's okay." cheong-san turned to hae-yi, " they're gonna rescue us. it's over now."

hae-yi nodded at him and forced a small smile, but she had a weird feeling in her gut that it wasn't the case.

" you may get up now." the soldier told them, and everybody hesitantly listened, " are you the only survivors?"

" we don't know, i'm sure there are more." cheong-san said.

" we'll go down for a few minutes, wait right here." the military officer instructed.

" aren't you going to rescue us?" ji-min stepped forwards.

" we will." he reassured, " so just don't go anywhere. don't do anything, stay here. understand?"

murmurs of agreement came from the group, and the soldiers all marched over to the edge of the roof, tying rope to the floor. they soon descended down the side of the school.

hae-yi shielded her ears with her hands at the sound of machine gun fire inside the classrooms below, and cheong-san stared over at her with concern evident on his face.

...

after a while of waiting anxiously, the students let out a sigh of relief as the soldiers returned to the rooftop.

" master sergeant, you go first." one of them spoke to another soldier who left to enter the helicopter.

" we'll pull you up one at a time. stay still even if you are scared, okay?" the soldier explained to the group, causing ji-min to turn towards him.

" aren't you going to land the chopper?" she asked.

" we can't for safety reasons. he'll pull you in, so don't worry." he reassured, " you can't go all at once, so we'll go one at a time."
