"Bro why are you staring at me looking crazy?" I asked Shawn.
"I'm just waiting to hear the details from this weekend."
"Really? Something is seriously wrong with you. Nothing happened. She just helped out tremendously with the girls and around the house. She left after the girls left for school." I answered truthfully.
"She's beautiful man. You mark my words."
"I'm a married man. I'm not looking at her in that type of manner. Get out of here with that."
"Bro, your wife is.."
"Don't start. It's Monday. I'm in a great mood. I just want to work." I interrupted.
"Fine. I'll say this, one of these days I'll say, I told you so." Shawn patted my back while laughing, as he walked away.
I shook my head.
I respect the fact that I'm married. I do love my wife. I have hopes and dreams of being all that she wants and need. I look for ways daily, to put a smile on her face. I'm trying to get my business in more states, so that I can give her the financial security she desires of me.
Whether she believes it or not, I'm almost there.
I sat behind my desk in my office and began scanning through important emails.
Not even 5 minutes later, Shawn rushed in here. "Yo J, your wife is here."
I smacked my lips. "Bro, Kayla is not my wife."
"No dumbass. Adayomi is here."
"Why?" I asked. She never comes to the gym.
"I don't know, she just parked. So she should be..."
"Excuse me, can you leave for a moment?" Adayomi said to Shawn.
"Yomi." I said.
"Gladly." Shawn looked her up and down and shook his head as he walked out. He closed the door behind him.
"I see you're back."
"Yes I am. I have something for you." She smiled as she began to reach in her MK purse.
She pulled out what appeared to be a packet.
"What's this?" I asked as she handed me the packet. "DIVORCE?" I asked. "Why? Like...I don't understand."
"I figured you wouldn't. I would like a divorce. You can have 100% custody of both girls, the dog, the house, you car, and I'm not paying child support."
"Yomi, I can't afford the mortgage right now."
"I know, which is why, I'll agree to pay the mortgage for up to a year, to give you time to get your finances together. Or, you could also sell the house. All the money that we get from selling the house can be yours." She smiled.
"What do I tell the girls?"
"The truth. Mommy wasn't happy and decided to go live her own life." She answered.
"What brought this up?"
"Jason. Jason. Jason. You're not the man I first met. We have become two different people. You're focused on your gym and fitness. I'm focused on money and creating a name for myself. Me being a lawyer, how do you think it feels saying 'I'm married to a gym owner/fitness trainer' ? To me our careers do not go together. What do you bring to the table? See I am the table. You need to be on my level or above me. You're not either of those. I'm just tired." She paused. "I'm headed to the house to get my belongings. I have movers coming so that we can move before the girls get home. I wish you the best. Hurry and sign those papers please. Have a great day." She tapped my hand as she walked out.
I stared at the papers as tears began to fall. Not for me, but for my daughters.
"Knock knock." Shawn said. "Yoooooo what's good bro?" He asked as he saw my tears.
I passed him the papers.
"Fuck." Shawn said.
I broke down and cried.
Instead of Shawn judging or laughing, he wrapped his arms around me in a brotherly way. "Bro, I got you. Don't worry about a thing. I got you. We will get through this. Let it out bro. Let it all out. I'm going to be right here. I got you bro. I promise I do."
