A/N: To all the moms out there, Happy Mother's Day!
This chapter ties directly into Rescue Missions & My Horrendous Luck, just if you were wondering how they were connected.
Oh and B/n= brother's name (Only used once, but I don't think I gave him a name)
Y/N POV
Heading back to the nest, Zyphur gently rose into the clear evening sky. The light orange of the sunset reflected off the pristine snowbanks. She rose high enough to give you a view of the whole island. You thought, maybe, she was trying to show off to Toothless or Cloudjumper since the fading sunset made her scales shimmer brightly.
Blinking rapidly, your eyes scanned the island again. Something shifted in your mind.
Suddenly, the pure white snow became a heavy purple smoke. Your breath caught in your throat. Your whole body tensed. You could see the huts, the armoury, the forge, even the stables where you had spent most of your time healing your friends. You reached out to touch the wood as a fire ball splintered the painted green roof. Burning white flames licked at your skin, your right arm ablaze of agony, smoke curling into your nostrils making it even more difficult to breathe. Panic seized your heart, quickening its pace to a furious pounding beat, as their faces flashed across your vision. Dad... Mom... B/n... NO!!
You slid out of the saddle, your eyes focused on a memory long past. You could hear someone shout your name, but you didn't recognize the voice in your haze. You blinked again and reality zapped back into place.
You barely managed to take a gulp of air before it was buffeted back out of your lungs as you collided with a mass of black scales. For a moment, your addled mind asked When did Zyphur's scales turn black? Then pain overtook you and the world faded.
Valka's POV
I was watching the sunset when I noticed
y/n's body tense. I had seen it happen a few times before, mostly during rescue missions when she came across dragons that she couldn't help. But this was the first time I had noticed it here, at home - her home.I called out to her, hoping a familiar voice could break through her spell. Hiccup looked up from where he and Toothless were gliding just above the water. Concern wiped the smile off his face as y/n screamed.
My heart stopped as she fell from the saddle. My child. My daughter. The sight of her falling, her auburn hair trailing like a comet through the air, terrified me. She was such a good flyer that I had never considered this a possibility. Something was wrong, more wrong than I could've imagined. Why didn't she tell me?
Zyphur dived after y/n a moment later but it was Toothless who caught her a second before she would've been flattened on the water.
oOo
When we landed in our little cozy corner of the nest, blankets strewn everywhere due to my absent-mindedness, she was shaking off Hiccup's advances, claiming that she was light-headed from the high altitude. The sudden drop was just a trust exercise. I almost laughed, it was probably the worst lie in the history of the world.
"I'm fine." She insisted as Hiccup threw a blanket around her shoulders.
Still worried, he guided her to a small fire pit that we used for cooking. He forced her to sit down and Toothless curled up behind her, propping her up with his smooth ebony wing. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, the whole of her right arm shaking with strain. Somehow her basket full of fish had remained closed and intact, still solidly in place on her back. I knelt down to help her take it off, glaring into her emerald eyes with the love and concern that only a mother could give. She looked away sheepishly.
