April 5th, 2550. Aurora Station.
I wake up still wrapped up in Misaki's arms. "Hey hon, feeling better?" I smile, looking up at her. "Yeah, much." I turn and stand up, then help her up. "That's good, because you may not want to be in there when Captain Zintoris comes back." We both turn around to see two different guards now. "Scott and Dan filled us in with the need to know info. Plus you two looked so peaceful sleeping there."
Misaki brushes herself off and leaves the cell when the guard opens it for her. "I'm gonna run back and change quick. I'll be right back." She zips out of the room. The fifth guard turns to me. "You're a lucky one." I nod in agreement. "Oh, hey. I have some food in the fridge. Might I get that please?" "Sure thing, toots." She brings me the food. I dig in like a starving teenager. Well... I kinda am. I'm 18.
"You know, you're kinda young to be a space pirate." Guard six says. I look up, a mess of blueberry on my face. Both women laugh. "Oh, you are a little darling. You can't be a space pirate." Six says to me. "But she is a cutie." Five says. "Oh, you're gonna want to be careful where you say things like that. My girlfriend might get offended and knock some skulls together, literally."
"Your girlfriend? She's a cutie too." Five says. I pop an eyebrow. Wow, no chill apparently. Once I finish my food, I sit there and look at the plastic containers. Hmm... what to do with them? "Oh!" Snap. Crackle. Buzz. The containers mold together and turn into a red plastic rose. "Wait. What the hell did you just do?" Five says, having seen my transmutation. I laugh. "Oh, nothing major. Just a little magic." She gives me the look. "Yeah, and I'm an admiral. So you mean to tell me that all this time, you could have just zapped your way out of here?"
I nod. They look at each other. "Well, that just bumped you up the list of possible dangers." I frown. "But I am a good girl. I've been placed in confinement, whether it was falsely or not and I'm not going to just bust myself out and become a fugitive. I don't have it in me. Maybe Crazy Kay might, but not little ol' Kaylin. I kinda like living. I've got quite a bit to live for." I start fiddling with the rose. I hear the door to the main room open, but I don't know if they did.
Five shrugs. "Fair. So, if you're not the space pirate, why did they lock you up in here?" "Have you seen what she looks like? We share the same face. I'm just 34 years younger than her." They both look at me. Six frowns. "How? Are you twins?" I roll my eyes. "Yeah, we're twins, but I'm 34 years younger than her. Wanna try that one again?" Five laughs. "I like this little one. She's spunky."
"Please explain how you share her face, but aren't her?" A male voice says as several people come into the room. I stand up. Two elves I don't know, Zintoris, Meira and the girls all come in. This room is getting a little packed now. "Admin Kelthana, I thought we told you earlier." Meira says. "Yes, however I want to hear it from this one. I want to gauge with my own eyes and ears whether or not she is lying."
I roll my eyes. "Great, interrogation by a walking lie detector. This will be fun." "Miss, need I remind you that sarcasm here will only prove to make your release less and less of a possibility" I roll my eyes again. "You realize that I could have been long gone by now if I had really wanted to be." Meira frowns. "Kaylin Craft, mind your manners." "Yes, ma'am." I sit down on the floor, twirling the rose in my fingers.
"Miss Craft. Please explain how you can share a face with the space pirate, but you claim you are not her." Admin Kelthana asks again. I'm really starting to NOT like this guy the more he talks. "A Faster than Light misjump dropped us here in this timeline and 34 years in the future from our own. A horribly low misjump chance that I believe the Annabelle Bray here in this timeline was able to recalibrate to an even lower chance. So now while we try to figure out how to get back to our own timeline, here we are. Here I am, taking blame for things that my alter self is responsible for."
