We Try Out Our New Toys

(Y/N)'s POV

Once the silence was broken, it was nothing but noise. As soon as one monster slipped through the cracks bearing the Symbol of Kronos, dozens more followed. Their roars and hisses drowned out by our own war cries.

Zeus's fist erupted. A shroud of dust immediately following, the first thing I saw clearly were a dozen Laistrygonian giants erupting from the ground, yelling so loudly my ears felt like bursting. They carried shields made from flattened cars, and clubs that were tree trunks with rusty spikes bristling at the end.

One of the giants bellowed at the Ares phalanx, smashed it sideways with his club, and the entire cabin was thrown aside, a dozen warriors tossed to the wind like rag dolls. "Fire!" Beckendorf yelled. The catapults swung into action.

Two boulders hurtled toward the giants. One deflected off a car shield with hardly a dent, but the other caught a Laistrygonian in the chest, and the giant went down. Apollo's archers fired a volley, dozens of arrows sticking in the thick armor of the giants like porcupine quills.

Several found chinks in armor, and some of the giants vaporized at the touch of celestial bronze. But just when it looked like the Lastrygonians were about to get overwhelmed, the next wave surged out of the maze.

At the feet of the giants slithered out thirty, maybe forty dracaenae in full battle armor, wielding spears and nets. They dispersed in all directions.  But as several sets of eyes saw the gap in our defence. My fight began.

Just as Clarisse had predicted, a large chunk of the forces headed straight towards me, seeing a flaw in our defences that they were eager to exploit. Around five or six snake women made their way towards me and one Laistrygonian.

Of course the giant was first to reach me, outpacing it's group in just a few strides. I took my final breath of calm, and rushed to meet him. Using my last bit of reserved power that I wasn't using on the shadow above the fist to summon someone to watch my back.

Terry rose from the ground already in mid charge, a dangerous gleam in his eyes and his spear pointed at the snake women. "Kill them all!" I commanded. He let out a gleeful laugh and collided with one as I reached the giant.

He swung a tree trunk at me, it passed straight through Terry, but I had to jump into the air and take to the sky to avoid the sweeping strike. I vaulted over it's head and then dragged my sword down it's spine.

By the time my feet hit the floor, the giant was dust. I looked through the falling specs and saw that Terry had already impaled one of his enemies, and was currently beating another with her own spear.

I couldn't have my subordinate beating me, I needed to lead by example, so I moved to intercept the remaining dracaenae before they reached the forest and flanked us. I grabbed one by the back of the neck and stabbed her under the chin as she gasped.

Another was struck by a stray arrow from the Apollo campers in the trees, as she collapsed, I took care of her remaining sisters, slashing one across the chest with my sword and the other in the side where her armour was weakest with my dagger.

But that was only the beginning. I could never stop, as soon as I was done with one enemy, I locked eyes with another. I tried to take out the giants first, thinking of them as the heavy artillery and leaving Terry to do his thing and temporarily guard our backs.

I knew my biggest advantage was my mobility, I was almost certainly the only demigod here with some sort of flying capability, so I had to use it. I ran interference mostly, and tried to pin down the giants, though I barely needed to.

Some hit the traps the Hephaestus cabin had laid. One got stuck on the spikes and became an easy target for archers. Another triggered a trip wire, and pots of Greek fire exploded into green flames, engulfing several of the snake women. But many more kept coming.
