I step out of the shower and feel the cold air hit my skin.
It takes a minute before I hear the yelling.
I try my hardest to block it out, but I just can't.
I dry myself off and put on my clothes, trying to ignore the tears building in my eyes.
All my parents do is argue and yell, and I'm stuck here, having to hear it all.
I walk to my room, throwing a few overnight essentials in my bag before dialing the one person in my life I can trust.
Davey.
The phone barely has time to ring before he's picked up. "Y/n! Hey, what's up?" He asks
"Can - can you -" I let out a sob.
"Y/n? Do you need me to come get you?" He asks, knowing my home situation.
"Please," I whisper
"Ok, I'll be there asap baby, hold on."
"Ok... I love you,"
"I love you more, baby. I'll see you soon." He says before hanging up the phone.
I make sure I have everything I need, and I make my way downstairs as quietly as possible to not be noticed by my parents.
Unfortunately, though, life has other plans as I hear my mother say, "Right, Y/n?"
"I'm not taking any part in this argument," I say, grabbing my coat and keys from the hooks beside the door.
"Where do you think you're going?" My father asks me as I go to open the door.
"I'm staying at... a friends house, " I say, taking my hand off of the doorknob.
My father crosses over to me and says, "And who gave you permission to do that?"
"I don't need permission. I'm 17, I can do whatever the hell I need to get away from you two arguing, " I say, and immediately after, I feel a stinging pain on my cheek.
I feel my eyes well up with tears again and I say "fuck you" as I walk out the front door.
Thankfully, my father doesn't follow me, and Davey arrives shortly after.
I run to the passenger side door, opening it and getting in quickly before slamming it shut.
I turn to Davey who is looking at me sadly. His sad look fades as he notices the mark on my cheek. "Baby, what happened to your cheek?"
"My dad slapped me. Can we please go?" I ask, not wanting to see this God forsaken house any longer.
"Ok," he says, glancing at me one last time before pulling out of my driveway.
We're quiet the entire ride, and his hand rests on my thigh as he occasionally glances at me.
After what feels like an eternity, we pull into the driveway of his house.
He gets out of the car, running around to the passenger side to open my door.
He stuck his hand out to help me out of the car, and grabbed my overnight bag for me.
He holds my hand as we walk to the front door, and he unlocks it and walks in, me right behind him.
"Y/n, dear, Davey told me you were upset, so I made your favorite cookies," Mrs. Jacobs says upon seeing me.
"Thank you so much, Mrs. Jacobs" I say weakly, hugging the older woman tightly.
"Of course, dear, if you need anything, we're always willing to help." She says, releasing me from her comforting embrace.
"C'mon baby, let's go lie down in my room," Davey says, grabbing my hand again and pulling me to his room.
As we enter the somewhat small space, he pulls me to his chest, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his forehead against mine.
He gives me a quick peck on the lips, but I pull him back down to get a longer kiss.
He's not one for any sort of PDA, so we only have moments like this in the security of his or my bedrooms.
As we separate, we sit on his bed and he asks me what happened.
I tell him about the arguing and the slap, and he pulls me close to him and just holds me as I cry.
"I don't ever wanna go back" I tell him
"Well you can stay here as long as you need my love" He says, kissing me again.
