Ch.8 Orderlies

The Wonderlandians walked the streets of London while keeping an eye out for Dr. Bumby.

"So where are we going first?" Bunny asked.

"I don't know" Alistair said as he read the map "I just can't seem to pick a location to start at".

"I think Alice's old house would be a place to start" Maddie said "But that's all the way in Oxford".

"Are you kids talking about Alice Liddell's house?" a voice asked.

The gang turned around to find an old lady with a big nose.

"Uh, who are you?" Kitty asked.

"I'm Priscilla Witless" the lady said "One of Alice Liddell's caretakers at the Rutledge asylum, but you can call me Pris".

"Oh yeah, I've heard about you" Alistair said "You're the one who blackmailed my mother into giving you money and alcohol".

"Alice is your mother?" the lady said "I didn't know she has a son now, what's your name lad?"

"Alistair" he said.

"Well Alistair, I've never seen you and your odd looking friends here before".

"That's because we're just visiting" Alistair said, even though Dinah was the one who dragged them here.

"Visiting eh? Well are you visiting from?"

"Oh" he said, not knowing if he should tell her about Wonderland "Uh, hey look, free alcohol!" he pointed behind Pris, even though there wasn't any alcohol.

"Where?!" Pris asked as she turned around, not knowing that the Wonderlandians has ran away from her.

When she turned around, she found that they were gone.

"Kids" she sighed.

The gang were now in front of a building, hoping that Pris didn't follow them.

"That was, weird" Dina said.

"I don't think we should trust her" Alistair said "She may seem nice at first, but she's really a selfish alcoholic women".

"I can tell by her alcohol breathe" Lizzie said, she then noticed the building "Hey what building is this?"

"Rutledge asylum" Marchness read the sign.

"Whoa" Alistair gave a small gasp "This was the asylum my mother used the stay at during her catatonic state".

"It's creepy looking" Kitty said.

"Should we go in?" Maddie asked.

"I'm not" Tony said taking a step back, but he felt himself bumping into someone. He turned around and found that he had bumped into a big fat man with a smaller fat man next to him. Both had stern faces.

"How come you don't wanna go in?" the big man asked "You can meet our patients".

Alistair's heart pounded faster, he knew these men, there were called the Orderlies, they were the nephews of the Superintendent of the asylum, and they used to mistreat and abuse his mother.

"Um, we're fine" he said nervously.

"Are you sure Alistair?" the smaller man asked "You don't wanna see the place your mother was treated at?"

"How do you know my name?"

The bigger man reached into his pocket and showed the gang Alistair's school I.D. The Wonderlandians were getting more scared. They could tell that Dr. Bumby had sent these men to search for them.

"Your mother was a fun patient to treat" the big man said "And we were wondering if you guys would like to try out our, treatments?"

"I bet we'll have a lot of fun with this guy" the small man pointed to Alistair.

"Um, no thanks" Alistair said "We should get going".

But just as the gang were walking away, the big man blocked their way.

"Come on kids" he urged with a nasty grin "You can meet new friends there".

Alistair noticed a path to escape.

"You wanna know something my mother told me?" Alistair asked the big man.

"Sure" the man said.

"Fat men always run slow".

Alistair then used his elbow to jab the man in the ribs as he and the gang ran away from the Orderlies. But the men started to go after them, and they were a bit slower. The Wonderlandians ran pass people and carriages with the Orderlies after them. Maddie looked into her hat for something to get rid of the men as they ran, she then found a bunch of beaded necklaces that gave her an idea.

"Maddie what are you doing?" Tammy asked.

"This" Maddie said as she broke the necklaces and let the beads fall out behind her.

The Wonderlandians watched as the Orderlies ran and slipped on the beads and landed on their backs.

"Oo!" they all winched as they continued running.

The Orderlies tried to get up, but they kept on slipping on the beads.

"I hate teenagers" the big man growled.

The gang ran until they came to a train station, making sure they had lost the Orderlies.

"Man" Tony sighed "You can't trust anyone here".

"It's a good thing Maddie had those necklaces" Dina said.

"Who were those guys?" Lizzie asked.

"They work at the asylum" Alistair said "They used to mistreat and abuse my mom when she was a patient there".

"Yikes" Kitty gasped.

"Now it looks like Dr. Bumby sent them to get us".

"Oh great" Dina said sarcastically.

"Well, where are we now?" Maddie asked.

As they looked around the trains station they were at, Alistair knew where they were.

"This is the same train station where my mother pushed Dr. Bumby into an incoming train. This was where Dr. Bumby died".
