Chapter 7| The Daring Escape
After the clanking stopped, everyone made their way down the catacombs with torches. Draco looked around, all confused. Buster came out of his stupor and saw the tiny dragon all by himself, squawking for help. Buster picked up the jar and closed the lid. "Don't worry, little bloke. I'll take you to the rendezvous point. We mustn't let James die in vain." He then put the vial of love potion in a leather pouch on his belt and found a place for Draco in the top hat Una wore.
He pulled his bow out and charged out of the bar, shouting,
“FOR JAMES!!!!”
“Um, Buster, I don't think James is dead yet. But I like your spirit.” Draco said, but alas, Buster didn't hear his warning over the sound of blood pumping in his ears.
“I SHALL AVENGE YOU, MY LOVE!!!!” Draco rolled his eyes as Buster began to gallop towards the sunset. Meanwhile, in the catacombs, the rest of the gang were lamenting over James' well being. Ken said, “I know y'all are sad he's gone, but I'm in charge now and I say we take action!” Everyone cheered in agreement. Kendra took a scroll out of her satchel and laid it on a makeshift table. She rolled it out and revealed a map. She pointed to the middle, where a big x was.
“Here's the rendezvous point. Here's where we are. At dawn, we strike!” she said. Everyone nodded in agreement.
Meanwhile, Una and James were heading to Princess Snowball's castle. The guards ordered for the drawbridge to open and they walked across it. They saw Snowball sitting cross legged in her throne.
“Well, peasant, you better have a good reason for being here.” she said in her squeaky, snotty voice.
“Yes, I have a gift for you.” he presented Una. “I appreciate the effort, but what am I supposed to do with it?”
“Well, I thought you'd like to ride it. Don't princesses know how to ride horses?”
“Yes, but unicorns only let the pure of heart ride them. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm not pure of heart. But that's not the reason you're here, is it? It's because you've been leading a rebellion against me. Do you know what that's called? High treason. And do you know what the penalty for that is? Execution by beheading. So, tell me where your fellow rebels are and I might decide to pardon you.”
“I'd rather give up my life than give up my friends." James said defiantly.
“Then so be it. I'm keeping the unicorn, though. As a reminder. Do you have any last words before I have my guards send you to the dungeon?”
“Long live King Houdini."
“Very well. Guards, seize him! Take him to the dungeon! His execution shall be tomorrow at dawn! And take the unicorn to the stables!” Una neighed angrily as two guards dragged James down the long hallway. Another guard started to try to drag Una to the stables but she wouldn't budge. He tried slapping her face and she donkey kicked another behind her in the privates. He bent over in pain and Una ran out of the castle, trying to get back to the bar.
As James was being dragged, one of the guards whispered,
“I don't particularly like the Princess, either. But she pays us well, so there's not much I can do.”
“Doesn't loyalty to King Houdini matter more?” James asked. The guard seemed to be considering it. They tossed James into the dungeon and locked it. He laid there, feeling depressed.
“Oh, King Houdini. When will you return from the Mouse Crusade?” he said wistfully.
