Chapter 9 | The Daring Rescue

The next day, they all marched to the castle. Buster and Kendra were in the front. Buster had his bow drawn. The drawbridge was lowered and Buster shot a couple guards in the arm and they fainted. When they got up, they looked at each other lovingly.
"I love you, man!"
"Give me a hug, you big lug!" the guards wept at each other. They then embraced and were then distracted, so Buster and Kendra got through. Then they discussed their plans.

"Ok, Kendra, you go to the dungeons, find James and free him. I'll see if he's already at the gallows. We'll meet there. If you find him, tell him about what he has to do." Kendra nodded and headed for the dungeons. She soon found the executioner.

She held her sword to his throat from behind him and said,
"Gimme the key to the dungeons and you walk away, unscathed."
"You wouldn't hurt me, you're a woman." "Try me, kornuk."
"What'd you call me?"
"Just tell me! Or your family will suffer!" he shakily put his hand in his robe pocket and pulled out a ring of keys. He selected a specific one and slowly handed it to her.

"There's only one prisoner today. It's the third cell on the left." "So this key will lead me to James?" "I don't know his name but there was a male prisoner here. I was just about to lead him to the gallows myself."

"Well, I would suggest that you don't move a muscle. Because if the princess finds out that you have betrayed her, why, I do believe that your head would be on the chopping block next."
"Then just slit my throat and get it over with. I'd much rather die by your hands than hers."
"No. You gave me what I wanted. I'd rather show mercy to you."
"Then kill me. She will not be as kind."
"Why don't you join me against her, then?" "I guess I hadn't thought of that. Maybe women are good for something."

She loosened her hold on the man and he pulled out another ring of keys. "These keys will free your friend from his chains. My name's Brutus." "Brutus, I'm Kendra." Then the two of them headed to the specified cell and Kendra put the key in the keyhole and unlocked it. James looked at her hopefully. She took the arrow head out of her pocket and kneeled to him, as he was close to the ground. But when she tried to stab him with the arrow head in the arm, she couldn't bring herself to do it.

She wept, as she felt like she ruined the plans.
"I can't. I can't do it! I can't hurt you, as you're the one who I truly love!" He lifted his head. He then lifted her head up and wiped away her tears. He then asked,
"You love me?"
"Wasn't it obvious?" He then went in for a kiss. And they kissed so passionately, that Brutus asked,
"So, you two are obviously more than friends, huh?" Then they both glanced at him and he nodded.
"Right, I'll shut my mouth up, then."

When they were finished, Kendra said,
"My love, we must free you from these chains." She then took the smallest key and unlocked the chains and as soon as he was free, he embraced her like he would never see her again. She was shocked at first but she hugged him back. Brutus felt uncomfortable and started to back away slowly.
"I'll just leave you two alone." They looked at him again and Kendra said,
"No. We need to get to work. When you were taken, James, we came up with a rescue plan, which you obviously don't know, so I'll just whisper it in your ear." she then whispered the plan into his ear and Brutus just stood there.
"Aren't you gonna tell me the plan?" he asked.
"You just need to stand up to Snowball, dude." said James.
"Like it's that easy. She's gonna kill us all!" "Not if the rebels can convince the villagers to stand up against her!" said Kendra.
"If you say so." Brutus said.
