After they finished their disturbing lunch of disgustingly sounding but deliciously tasting tacos, they headed back to the small airport where things proceeded in a very similar fashion to when they had left L.A.
"Alright, you ready to start rolling?" Tanner asked once they had received taxi clearance from the Brown Field Tower.
"Yes!" Warren clapped his hands enthusiastically.
They began rolling down the lane, towards the runway. "Okay, now gently try to move a little to the left." Tanner made a hand gesture to their left. "But not too far, just a bit."
Far more careful this time, Warren stepped on the left break, immediately causing the sensitive aircraft to sway to the side. It wasn't as hard as the time before, but still far from the gentle turns Tanner managed.
"Good, now back into the middle again. Try to position yourself right above the white line." Tanner gestured at the white line that went along the entire rollway.
As carefully as possible, Warren stepped on the right break, but before he knew it, they were way past the white line and on the other side of the rollway. Warren sighed. He would never get this right.
"It takes practice. Let's try aiming for the white line again," Tanner encouraged with a warm smile.
After another deep breath, Warren tried again, this time only swaying a little beyond it, to the left again.
"See? We're making progress! Now try to take that left turn onto the large pedestrian crossing thingy, then another sharp left so we'll face down the runway." Tanner pointed ahead at what he meant.
Warren really wanted to use his hands to stir, but obviously knew that wouldn't work. Very slowly and wobbly, swaying from left to right, he eventually managed to roll onto the giant crosswalk where Tanner stepped into both breaks to bring them to a halt.
"Okay, now what?" How was he supposed to face the runway which was on their left?
"Now you just step firmly into the left break, while I slowly release the right one, then we will take a sharp turn to the left. Ready?" Tanner gave him an encouraging nod.
Warren swallowed and nodded, stepping firmly into the left break. Just like Tanner had said, the plane turned almost on the spot and they began facing towards the runway.
"Now both breaks so we won't keep turning."
Warren quickly stepped into the second break, effectively stopping them, almost aligned with the runway.
"Awesome." Tanner grinned brightly. "Now we're going to accelerate to 5000 RPM again, release the breaks, and once we reach 60 knots, we are going to gently pull the nose up. We'll do it together, ok?"
"W-what? Okay... Um..." Warren was about to hyperventilate while Tanner switched around on random things and spoke on the radio before gesturing at Warren to accelerate.
Hesitantly, though not as hesitantly as before, Warren pushed the lever forward, released the breaks, and they began gaining speed.
Tanner nodded. "You can do it a little bit quicker." Once more, he placed his hand over Warren's and pushed the lever forward in one, smooth motion before immediately removing his hand again and using it to point at one of the gauges.
"We're about to reach 60 knots. You ready?""Yes, yes, yes," Warren stammered, nodding and clutching the joystick firmly with both hands.
Just as they reached 60 knots, Tanner gently pulled the nose upwards, with Warren following his movements, and they smoothly rose into the air, just the way they had done when taking off from Los Angeles.
