"I just don't see how you're able to switch so easily! I mean, that wasn't just a film or something, Newt! People died!"

"I just don't see how you're able to switch so easily! I mean, that wasn't just a film or something, Newt! People died!"

"I know!" Newt scoffed from across the table. "I'm just saying that maybe all of this good stuff and these nice people are trying to show us that we're safe now!"

"Or it's their way of buttering us up for another set of trials or experiments!" Thomas chimed in, backing me up.

"Alright listen," Newt sat up, fuming. "Some of us have never had a good meal. A decent shower. Or a proper bed. We've spent most of our lives running around in fear inside that Glade sleeping on ripped sheets tied to tree trunks working our lives away building a life that wasn't natural. Now, we're all able to go to sleep in a warm bed in a safe building without fear of being murdered. Tell me again how you think any of this is bad?"

"Newt, it's because of everything we went through in the Glade that should make us all question what we're heading into here!"

The table was silent. Newt looked distraught. Defeated. He stood up looking like he was about to cry.

"This kind of life is what I hoped for before I tried to off myself in that Maze, Elsie. My hope for a better life has returned and I'm hurt that you're not even the least bit happy for me and this opportunity to start over. Do not follow me. I'm going to bed."

He left the dining room. I heard the bell ring from an elevator in the hallway, then the doors closed. With angry tears in my eyes, I followed suit and just went up to my room.

I felt angry. Upset. Betrayed.

Did Newt not remember anything that happened in the Glade? Did he forget we're supposed to all stick together?

That all we had was each other because everyone in the outside world wanted us dead.

None of this is safe. Because we don't know these people. And we can't trust people we don't know.

Yet here Newt is welcoming them in with open arms. I'm just trying to protect him.

Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

He's running into all of this with open arms not knowing anything about this city or these people. I just don't want to see him get hurt.

There was a knock on my bedroom door but I sighed frustratedly. "Thought you said you were going to bed?!"

Thomas slowly opened the door, spotting me out on the balcony, looking out at the lit up city at night.

"It's Thomas. I just... wanted to make sure you were okay. You two have never fought before."

"It's a sibling thing I guess. Fights. It'll probably be fine tomorrow."

"Yeah," He joined me out on the balcony and breathed in the cool night air. "So. Are you ready for our faction test?"
