Inej - An Eventful Night

Missions have been on an all-time low so you and Inej have been able to spend more time together. You wanted to get to know her better so you went on little adventures with her, to new bars in town, seeing sights, and having late-night talks. During those trips,  you'd bring baked goods and often Jesper would join you two before drifting off and you'd have to carry him to his room. But you enjoyed the time with her and appreciated her company. You felt extra courage one night while looking into her eyes on the Slat's roof.

I took a deep breath of the cool night air. Hugging my knees to my chest, I turned to Inej. She was dazzling. She took off her jacket so the wind would touch her skin and her hair delicately sat on her shoulder. She looked like a dream.

"The night is beautiful." She said, I watched as her lips moved. I force myself to stop starting and face the stars.

"I couldn't agree more." I laid my back on the rooftop and put my arms behind my head. I watched the clouds pass and I heard shuffling in front of me. Sitting up, I watched as Inej moved from the roof's ledge towards me, laying a couple of inches away from me and I scooted over to give her more room on the blanket.

"This is quite uncomfortable." She shifted around and bumped into me. " I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bump you." She meets my eyes and my heart skips a beat.

"You could rest on my arm if you'd like." She smiled and scooted closer, I stretched my arm out and her head landed on it. Our sides were touching, I felt my face heat up and my stomach was doing flips. Her eyes were on the sky but my eyes traced her. Inej must've felt my eyes on her, she looked at me and I quickly looked away.

"Am I making you uncomfortable?" She sat up and rested on her elbow so she could fully face me. I looked at her.

"No! No. My apologies. I don't mind you laying on me, I promise." I reassured her,  she hesitantly positioned herself back on my chest and slithered her arm around my waist. My heart quicked again and I looked at the top of her head. I sighed and relaxed, letting her lean more onto me.

"You're very warm. Thank you for tonight." She whispered against my chest. I smiled, reaching down and grabbing her hand.

"I care a lot about your happiness and am glad you enjoy spending time with me. It should be me thanking you." She moved her head to look at me and I gazed down at her. It felt like hours passed as we stared into each other's eyes in silence.

"No need to thank me, I'd walk to the ends of the earth and beg saints to see you." My eyes widened, seeing me do so, Inej jumped onto her feet. "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." I quickly stood up.

"You'll never be an inconvenience to me. I've always thought of you in the same way!" Her expression softened and she smiled at me. She held my hand and caressed my knuckles. I took a step closer to her. "I'd love to spend my time with you, Inej. I hope to never lose you."

"Hope is a dangerous thing, but I'd risk it for you." Her hand glided to my waist, grabbing me closer. My face flushed as she hugged me. I wrapped my arms around hers and squeezed. I felt safe in her arms and never wanted to let go but I had to when I felt her soft lips on her cheek. I met her eyes, they were full of caution and shock.

"Excuse me." She turned and walked away. I chased after her, grabbed her arm, and turned her around. My eyes fluttered to her lips and eyes. Inej took the initiative and kissed me. I held her cheek and she gripped my waist. It felt like the saints had blessed me and I was the chosen one. She broke the kiss and looked at me.

"That was... lovely." I squeaked out. I was still flustered and my voice clearly showed it. She laughed.

"You're lovely." She kissed me again. And again. And again. The words repeated in my mind. 

"You're lovely."
