Chapter Seventeen

Morning came and all I wanted to do was sleep. But as life would have it, I got ready. Good timing too, for Alexander showed up. I joined him and Magnus on the balcony.

"How many downworlders do you think live in New York?" Alec asked us

"I don't know, but they're not all your responsibility." Magnus told him

"You and Stella are." He said

I smiled, loving how affectionate Alec is. Ever since last night, I have been protective of him. I always keep my hand somewhere on him. Right now, he is holding me.

"We can take care of ourselves." I told him

"Maybe... but this is different. You and Magnus may have lived through the fall of Rome, but even the Dark Ages couldn't have been this dark." Alec told us and it was times like these that I remember my mate is but a child still.

"I am not a child." Alexander told me.

"My love, I am centuries old. You and Magnus will always be younger than me." I told him.

"Alexander... I know things may seem bleak, but... nothing was as devasting seeing you standing on that ledge." Magnus told him as I squeezed Alec closer to me

"It was the magic. I would never, never..." Alec said

"I know. We know. But magic can't create fears, only bring them out." Magnus told him

"Magnus...." Alec said

"Look, you don't have to explain yourself. I've been through it myself. So has Stella." Magnus told him

"Just promise us, you'll tell us if things ever get that bad." I told him

"Alexander, there something I have to tell you." I continued

"What is -"Before he could continue Jace, and Clary came through the door

I could only roll my eyes at how annoying they are.

"Don't you people have phones?" Magnus asked sarcastically

"We need your help." Jace said

As we reached them in the middle of the room, I looked at Clary's hand. I've seen this before.

"Ah, it's started." I said

"La Chair Brulee" I said as I looked at it. I guided Clary to a seat, with Jace beside her as Magnus, Alec, and I stood.

"I'm guessing that's not a dessert." Clary said

"It means 'the burnt flesh.' It's an old blood oath spell." I told them

"Then it must be Iris. She said you owed her a favor." Alec said

"At Max's party, she said I have to find Madzie." Clary said

"I do remember that." I said

"Then we better start looking. I can get rid of the pain, but that's about it. I'm afraid once the magic reaches your heart..." Magnus said before stopping himself

"So if I don't find Madzie... I'm dead." Clary said

"No... no Magnus, Stella, there has to be a cure. there has to be something we can do to stop this." Jace said

"can't we force Iris to undo it?" Alec asked

"I wish it was that easy. but blood oath spells are completely binding. Even Iris herself can't reverse it now." I explained to them

I watched as Clary and Jace left leaving just my mates and I.
