Chapter 1

It happened to me.

Ava's P.O.V

There is a cliche.

It's one that everybody knows.

The cliche of falling for your best friend.

It happens in countless movies, almost every t.v show, it's a common theme in many books.

But you have to think, does it actually happen in real life or is it always made up to just have a nice, thick plot?

Well, yea. It does.

It happened to me.

It's exactly like the movies, the t.v shows & the books too.

There's the one friend, we can call them friend A, who does the falling. It's as if it happens over night. One day they're hanging out with their best friend, looking at them as just that label & then boom there's a moment. Then the feelings change.

After this moment everything is different. All of the sudden, they wonder what it's like to be in their friend's arm, they wonder what it's like to kiss their lips, they wonder what it's like to fall asleep next to them while talking about the deepest secrets that even one wouldn't tell their best friend.

After this moment, friend A spends time wondering what to do. Risk a friendship & tell them? Keep it a secret? Let it eat them alive inside until it finally bursts out?

There's no right answer.

But it happens.

It isn't as cliche as it seems in movies, on t.v or in books.

It actually happens to real people, to real friendships, in real life.

It happened to me.

But here's the thing. Friend B never has any idea.

They don't wonder what it's like to hold their friend, what it's like to kiss their friend's lips or they don't wonder what it's like to fall asleep next to them talking about the deepest secrets.

The moment didn't happen for them.

They still look at their best friend, friend A, as if nothing changed.

& that's the saddest part, one falls & the other doesn't catch.

I didn't want to fall for Calum, it just happened.

Calum & I had been best friends since we were six.

We met because I lived down the street from Michael, who was my first best friend, who then met Calum at school, & so the three of us became best friends.

A few years later, we met Luke, Ashton & Marcy, who we're also all best friends so by age ten, the six of us were literally inseparable.

We did everything together - we all rode the same bus to school, we had a lot of classes together, we always went on bike rides, we had sleepovers, we would swim, we would camp, we helped each other through the hard times & we shared many fun moments.

We grew up together.

As best friends.

But then the moment happened.

The moment where my feelings changed.

We were fourteen when it happened.

Four Years Ago

"Calum & Ava days are my favorite." Calum told me as we were sitting on his bed. All of our other friends weren't able to hang out, they had homework to do or family to spend time with, so my Saturday was Calum's.

"Why?"

"I don't know. I like that we can just totally bum. & your mom always orders us pizza."

"Which she did & it's on the way."

"Cool. I love Mrs Fitz."

"I know, my mom is pretty amazing."

Later that evening, we were down in my living room in the middle of a movie marathon.

I won the coin toss so I was able to pick the movies.

So I picked romantic comedies - a Nicholas Sparks marathon.

"I can't take this." I was crying during the Last Song. "This is so sad. Cancer is so sad."

"Aves!" Calum looked over as he was sitting on my dad's recliner chair, laughing. "Don't cry."

"I can't help it! Her dad is dying!"

"It's just a movie."

"But it's a sad movie!"

"Come here." Calum called out as he lifted the blanket from his lap.

"Why?"

"So you don't have to cry alone! Get over here, Aves."

I kept my blanket draped over my shoulders as I walked over to Calum's lap.

I've sat on his lap many times, I've even slept on the couch with him when we had sleepovers & neither of us wanted the floor.

I had have sat on Luke, Ashton & Michael's lap too, sleeping next to them as well.

It never means anything.

Except this time.

I crawled onto Calum's lap & he dropped my blanket over me again before he wrapped his arms around my waist. It made me feel safe.

"Will you stop crying?"

"I'm trying."

"Well stop." Calum said as he wiped my cheek. "It's making me sad now." Calum's voice was very quiet yet very sincere. He looked right down at me & I felt like it was just different.

This wasn't the messy, little Calum that I met when I was six.

This was an older Calum, one who was comforting me, holding me.

I looked up at Calum & then I looked at his lips.

I wanted to kiss him.

Calum.

My best friend.

I wanted to kiss my best friend, Calum.

HIs eyes looked darker, his smile cuter, his voice sweeter.

"Sorry."

"It's okay." Calum sighed as he tightened his grip around me for the rest of the movie.

I wanted him to hold me.

& I was sad when he let go.

-

& now? Four years later?

He still never knows that I didn't want him to let go.

-

A/N HIIII I'm back again. Sorry it took me longer than I thought to get this little intro up. I'll try to upload a few chapters this week but I have four exams in a row & I also have the 5sos concert on wednesday so I have a lot of work coming up but if I need a break, I'm planning on posting something...but otherwise, here's a little preview to hold you over.

It's the stereotypical girl falls for guy best friend plot but I think I went about it a bit differently & so hopefully you'll enjoy this.

Feel free to spread the word about my new ficcccc.
