Chapter 4

When James reached his dorm, he was relieved to see the common room empty. He hadn't noticed how late it was until he glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already 1am. Time travelled so fast when you're with the person you like.

He entered his room, expecting his friends to be asleep and snoring. So Imagine his surprise when he saw Remus sitting on his bed, with light illuminating from him so he could see the words on his book. They made eye contact as soon as the door closed behind James.

"Where have you been?" Remus asked after Sirius let out a loud snore.

He blinked "Why are you still awake?"

"I asked first" He responded immediately.

"Took a walk on the lake to clear my mind" He said, slowly walking to his own bed and sitting on the edge "Why are you still awake?"

Remus closed his book and placed it on his bedside table "Was waiting for you, i got worried after you marched out on us"

James grinned amusedly "Your such a wife-material, Moony"

Remus rolled his eyes "Very funny. Were you with someone?" The question came out suddenly and suspiciously, squinting his eyes at him.

James looked at him for a while "No? Why would you ask that"

"Well, i don't know. You stormed off somewhere because Padfoot wouldn't take you seriously about Snape, and when you came back, you were smiling like an idiot who fell in love"

Upon hearing the last few words, James' jaw dropped slightly. An idiot who fell in love? Did he really looked like that? Did Severus had the same impression when he was smiling at him? His cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and Remus looked at him in shock.

"Wait!" He whispered-shouted "You are an idiot who fell in love! Who was it, Prongs? Was it Lily?"

At the mention of Lily, everything just came crushing down. Like a rollercoaster descending from its highest point. To be honest, after the incident of him finding a new crush, he had forgotten about her. He had been too focused on Severus to talk to her.

"Secret" He winked and Remus' eyes widened even more "Go to sleep Moony, we still have school tomorrow-later"

Then, he walked into the bathroom to change his outfit, leaving a baffled Remus and Sirius' snores on the background.

James stood in front of the bathroom mirror, staring at his own reflection. The mention of Lily's name had stirred something within him-a mix of guilt and confusion.

Does he still like Lily? Absolutely. In a romantic way? Absolutely not. She had a lot of good qualities and James wouldn't be able to list them one by one because it would take him all day.

He had always thought-since he was eleven, that she was his soulmate. The girl he had dreamed of being with everyday until they grow old and die. He imagined going on dates, kissing her every morning when they woke up, and do muggle things together.

But now, he saw things differently. When he tried to picture those scenarios again, it wasn't Lily he was with. Instead, it was Severus. He visualized kissing his knuckles, tying his hair so it wouldn't fall in his face every time he reads, and cuddling in bed for half a day until their limbs went numb.

Severus had occupied his thoughts and his heart, consuming his attention in a way that he never expected. It was as if he had become addicted, for some reason. Was Sirius right? Did he put a charm on him as revenge? But he knew Severus hadn't done that. He wasn't the type of person to do that.

As he changed his clothes, his thoughts switched back to Lily. Should he leave her alone, like she had always wanted? Would she be grateful? Confused? Angry? James didn't know, but he would figure it out eventually. If only he had the courage to do it.

James sighed to himself, it was late, and he was too tired to think about everything. Leaving the bathroom, he found Remus lying in bed, pretending to be asleep. He was grateful to have a friend like him, someone who didn't pry into things he didn't want to share.

He slipped into his bed and wrapped the comforter around him. James fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. Just like the other nights, he dreamed of a certain Slytherin.
