"I-I like you (M/N), as more than a friend! Please go out with me!" He bowed in front of me, clearly very nervous. I stood on the spot, my mouth dry as nothing but dilemmas filled my mind. I liked Sasuke quite a lot– he was kind and funny, not caring about what others thought about him. I would happily say yes to him and become his boyfriend, however, my only problem was that my best friend liked him too.

[Flashback]

It was after school practice, and as always, a group of admirers sat in the stands. Naruto claimed they were here to watch him only but everyone knew that wasn't true. A few new members of the team seemed impressed by how many people came to watch, but Shikamaru, Neji and I assured them that by the end of the year they'd be sick of them. I'll admit that it's true that many of them were 'fans' of the resident idiot, but it wasn't only Naruto and I's fans that liked to watch us practice, a lot of the students did as we were the most successful sports teams Konoha High had to offer, the boys baseball team.

Today, however, I spotted someone up on the top of the stands whom I'd never seen before. It was Sasuke Uchiha from my class, someone who had intrigued me ever since the start of school. He was handsome, that much was obvious, but he was also mysterious. He lived life with no worries, and kept to himself. I smiled when I saw him, and to my surprise, he waved down at me.

"Hey (N/N), look! Sasuke's come to watch me play too!" Naruto said, suddenly appearing by my side. I furrowed my eyebrows a little, it probably being true that he came to watch him as opposed to me. He waved and I thought I noticed him looking a little pissed, but waving again with less enthusiasm.

"Oi, Captain (L/N), Uzumaki! Back to practice!" Coach called and together we got back to work. After practice, Naruto and I walked home together as usual, however today he was talking about Sasuke non-stop. I was a little confused as to why he was so fixated on him, and it was irritating me to the point where I couldn't help but blurt it out.

"Why are you so damn obsessed with Sasuke?" I asked, a little louder than I intended. He looked at me shocked at my outburst.

"Isn't it obvious?" He asked and I furrowed my eyebrows. "I like him (N/N)-chan, I like him a lot!"

My stomach dropped at his words. The boy I was crushing on, the boy I wanted to be my boyfriend, was also my best friend's crush? Irritation flooded my veins. Out of all the people in the school, all the people that were desperate for his attention, he had to go for the one boy that didn't seem interested in him?

"Why?"

"Isn't it obvious? He's so cute, and cool! How could I not like him?"

"What about all your damn fans? Hinata, Garaa, hell even Sakura! Don't you care about any of them?" I asked and he tapped his chin.

"They're nice and all, and some of them are pretty, but not in comparison to Sasuke. He's fun to mess with, and he makes me feel good." He said. I clenched my fists, trying to understand how and why of all the people in the school, of all the people who were interested, it was the boy I liked that he had to be crushing on. "(N/N)-chan?"

"What?" I said gruffly. "You okay there?"

"I'm fine– look, I gotta get home, see you around."I said, setting off on a jog to get home and away from him as quickly as possible. When home I slammed the door shut, letting out a few swear words. I thought about Sasuke, and how close I was to asking him on a date, but of course Naruto had to be into him. Even if I did somehow have a chance with him, Naruto was my best friend since I was a child, and the last thing I wanted to do was to hurt him.
